The FTC has issued $126 million worth of refunds across 969,173 payments toFortniteplayers who were charged for “unwanted items”. If your claim was approved, you’ll receive your refund either via check or PayPal in the coming days.
Those who are refunded won’t lose any cosmetics they bought.
For context, in 2022,Epic Games settled with the FTCover allegations that it violated the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, paying $520 million in penalties. $245 million of that pot was set aside to refund consumers who were affected by Fortnite’s “dark patterns and billing practices”.
The first round of payments was sent out last year, with $72 million distributed across 629,000 claimants, but don’t worry if you missed out.
Fortnite Refund Applications Are Still Open
As explained onthe FTC website, you can stillapply for a refunduntil the July 9 deadline,so long as you’re based in the US. You must also be over 18 years old; otherwise, a parent or guardian will have to file the claim on your behalf.
To be eligible for a refund, any of the following statements must be true:
When making your application, you will need to provide your claim number or Epic Account ID.
If approved, the amount you receive will “depend on several factors, including how many people file a claim”. Some allege to have been paid $20, while others say they’ve received as much as $250.
If you filed a claim after June 11, 2025, you don’t need to do anything else right now. The FTC is still reviewing claims filed after that date and will provide more information soon.
The FTC ‘expect’ to send out the next round of payments in 2026 after it has “reviewed and validated all claims”, so refunds won’t be immediate. But as we’re seeing on Reddit, applicants are waking up to a nice surprise in their inbox as hundreds of dollars pour into their PayPal wallets.
