Summary

Even thoughElden Ring Nightreignisn’t nearly as complex or challenging as some of the other titles in FromSoftware’s expansive library, it can still offer up a brutal experience if you aren’t aptly prepared for it, leading to some frustrating moments the closer you get to completing your run.

From returning favoritesto brand-new and devastating encounters, you will constantly be placed on your back foot if your loot isn’t up to snuff, making any battle potentially fatal. However, even with a good build, some bosses are just built different and can take you out in the blink of an eye, making them truly formidable!

The Die Is Cast

Kicking things off, we have Libra, Creature of Night, which is a demonic goat Night Lord that disguises itself as a human, giving players the option of asking for a buff in return for an ailment of some sort. Accepting its deal or denying it will yield the same result, having it reveal its true nature as an Equilibrious Beast.

All in all, this fight isn’t too bad,so long as you have at least one ranged Nightfarer on your team.If you don’t, however, you will be fighting for your life, as you won’t be able to destroy all of its Light Glyphs, which can make this demonic goat very, very strong. Once you learn its tricks, you should be fine, but the first few attempts will give you a run for your money!

A Visual Showcase Of Pain And Suffering

Heolstor, the Night Lord, is up next and is the final Night Lord you will square off against, which will surely offer a challenge. However, despite being the final battle, he’s not AS tough as you may expect. While the fight is visually stunning and noisy, his attacks are generally linear.

But, there is one catch here, and that’s that there are two phases of this encounter, which is what makes it so brutal. If you mess up and have to consume one too many Flasks in the first phase, you will have to play nearly flawlessly in the second half, which can be very challenging. If not for this, he’d likely skip this list, but it makes him annoying to deal with during some runs!

Oooh, Pretty!

Following that, we have Gnoster, Wisdom of Night, a surprisingly pretty boss encounter with a soothing song that plays in the background, only to be paired with one of the most annoying and brutal encounters of the game. Seriously, what is up with this thing?

Gnoster will likely be your first skill check that will trip you up in your early endeavors, which is why it’s on this list,as it excels at EVERYTHING.Can it snipe you from long distances? Yup. How about attacking you close up? Mhmm. But can it close the gap at tremendous speeds while also hitting you from the side? Also yes. This thing is unnecessarily challenging in the early goings!

RKO Outta Nowhere!

You can often run into the Fell Omen on the second day of your run, which isn’t so bad. But, what happens if he appears out of nowhere and blindsides your group during or immediately after a Field Boss or Evergaol Boss, kills you, and curses you with the Unhealed Wound Carved by the Night ailment, having you take more damage for the rest of the expedition?

As a Night Boss, Fell Omen is a breeze to take down. Easy. But when he ambushes you, curses you, and peaces out? That’s an entirely different beast right there. Especially when he always seems to be waiting to catch you and your team off guard. Like in the base game, Margit is an absolute jerk!

Astel Still Got (Many) Hands

One of the more mesmerizing and challenging encounters in the base game was against Astel, Naturalborn of the Void, which makes its reappearance in Nightreign as one of the handful of Shifting Earth Bosses, specifically when Noklateo, the Shrouded City, appears in your world. And, like before, it’s a tough battle.

Astel possesses many of the same actions as it did in the base game, but doesn’t deal nearly as much damage. So, it is a bit more manageable than before, but it still isn’t what we’d call easy. Pair this with the pressure of beating it before the storm closes, and you have an exhilarating and intense fight on your hands!

Crucial Reward With Limited Time

Speaking of Shifting Earth Bosses, the Mountaintop Ice Dragon spawns when the Mountaintop region is in play, and is a vital target if you want extra Frostbite protection for a certain Night Lord. But, as with all bosses during the first two days, they must be defeated before the storm closes, and you won’t be able to take this beast on until at least day two.

Mountaintop Ice Dragon also deals tremendous amounts of Frostbite damage whenever it’s near you, so you must come prepared. And have to hope you can kill it fast enough before the storm closes. So many things have to line up and go in your favor to defeat this boss, making it one of the hardest in the game!

No Longer The Laughing Stock

Fresh from the latest update, we have Adel, Baron of Night (Everdark Sovereign version), a supercharged version of the original Adel, Baron of Night encounter, but with different attacks, faster actions, and a massive damage buff, making it nearly impossible without a proper build.

Adel, Baron of Night, is sort of a pushover Night Lord, and most players will likely defeat it on their first or second attempt. However, this iteration of it is remarkably strong and will almost certainly require many more attempts than that to slay. Unfortunately, it’s only around for a limited time, but we strongly recommend it if you’re up for a challenge!

1Caligo, Miasma Of Night

Freeze Out Tactics

Finally, we have Caligo, Miasma of Night, the penultimate Night Lord encounter in Elden Ring Nightreign, and one that can provide a lot of headaches and frustration. If you cannot manage to defeat the Mountaintop Ice Dragon, or if the Mountaintop isn’t even available for you, this fight can be excruciating.

Relics, Thawfrost Bouses, and excellent Weapon RNG will be your savior for this encounter, as you will need lots of Frostbite mitigation to have a hope of defeating this thing early on. Then there’s also the gimmick where it covers its arena in fog and hides away, forcing you to find it in time before it brings an ice ceiling down on your head for massive damage.Yeah, this thing doesn’t play around, making it one of the most challenging encounters in the game!
