Trophies exist for a variety of purposes. Yes, to some degree, they are there for people who want to brag about their video game achievements. However, they can also act as an incentive to complete challenges or encourage you to see more of the game’s world. Sometimes,they are also there to make you chuckle.
There’s nothing like a good pun. Which is a bit of an oxymoron, because thebestpuns are theworstpuns. I’ve been on the search for the best worst puns hidden in the achievement and trophy sections of our favorite games.
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
WHERE TO PLAY
Metal Gear Solid 2 continues the stealth-based action series from Hideo Kojima, first launched on the PS2 in 2001. It sees Solid Snake and young agent Raiden go up against the Sons of Liberty, a terrorist group.
This trophy isKojima in a nutshell. The man has always had an unquestionable thirst. It is worth noting that this isn’t a case of it not being what it sounds like. In order to do this one, you’ll need to enter a locker, stare at the smutty photograph, and then get called out for it by Otacon.
From Shadow of the Damned having a trophy that references your “BIGBONER” gun, to Bionic Commando’s “I got Hard” trophy, there are plenty of trophies that have names that are double entendres, or are relentlessly horny. So, I’ve gone ahead and given them the 11th spot on this list. That way, we can keep the gooner energysomewhatsubdued.
Fallout 76
Taking the Fallout series into the MMO space, Fallout 76 is a prequel to the mainline games. You’ll have to traverse the massive open world of Appalachia in order to build bases, survive, and grow stronger.

A classic phrase takes on a new meaning here. It is a cute play on words, no doubt, and it brings Charlie Brown to mind, which is always a delight. Then you realize that Bethesda is actuallyincentivizing players to turn against each other.
That’s when the joke goes from being cute to being genuinely hilarious. And, yeah, just a little toxic. Never change, Bethesda. You are a bunch of maniacs.
The Stick of Truth is known for its sharp script andbitinghumor, so I suppose it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they’ve given us a trophy poking fun at our red-haired brethren, where you need to get nibbled on by them. Do you see what I did there? “Biting humor”?Prettygood, right?
One thing I found in my attempt to track down funny achievements is that a lot of the comedy games didn’t have them. Thankfully,the Stick of Truth doesn’t disappoint in that regard.
Devil May Cry 5
Devil May Cry 5 continues the long-running action-adventure series from Capcom. You play as Dante, Nero, and a mysterious warrior named V as they look to stop the Demon King Urizen from wreaking havoc on the world.
The Devil May Cry 5 trophies are lined with puns about going to hell or being damned. Because, you know, you play through the game as a bunch of demon hybrids.
This is a fun achievement that is earned by defeating the game’s opening boss, whom you are meant to lose to. So, while it is some fun wordplay, it is also what some players will have said after achieving this feat.
Persona 3 Reload
Persona 3 Reload is a ground-up remake of the RPG classic, aligning the aesthetics with the more recent Persona 5. It does not contain any of the changes or extra content from Persona 3 FES or Persona 3 Portable.
For those not in the know, you’ll join a group of Persona users named the Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad - or SEES for short. Now that you know that, I hope you can SEES the source of the humor.
Okay, that one was pretty rough. Gamers will nab this achievement pretty early in the game. It’s safe to assume that it’ll likely elicit a sensible chuckle.
DOOM Eternal
Doom Eternal sees you take on the role of the Doom Slayer, this time to rid earth of the demonic threat. The familiar arsenal of weapons returns, from the Super Shotgun to the chainsaw, and huge boss fights require strategy and cunning.
You’ll grab this achievement after killing Eternal’s Doom Hunters. It’s a fun play on a classic phrase that dates back to Greek mythology (Actaeon), and has never fallen out of favor. That’s right, I didresearchfor this entry.
If that isn’t enough of a pun for you animals, then here, I present you with The Dark Ages' Gunpletionist achievement. A pun so lazy that it immediately brings a smile to my lips.
To get the Gunpletionist achievement, you need to complete the Mastery Challenge for every weapon.
A movie quote and a pun, you love to see it. For those living under a rock,The Eye of the Tigeris the iconic song that was part of the Rocky 3 soundtrack. And, well, Mortal Kombat is gory. You now have both parts of the joke. I’m sure me explaining it to you didn’t ruin it at all.
As a side note, unless I am missing something, it is weird that they spelled it TaiGore, right? Or is the joke that the Mortal Kombat developers are just bad at spelling in general? We’ll never know…

Dead Island 2
Dead Island 2 brings back the first-person, zombie-killing mayhem for a brand new episode. Your job is to rid the city of Los Angeles of the undead, using a range of weapons and killer moves.
It’s a pun. It’s a reference to a beloved movie. And even its description is funny (“No actual groundhogs were harmed in the completion of this”). Given that Dead Island 2 is an irreverent game set in Los Angeles, this achievement fitsperfectly.
What else could you want from a trophy? It’s also likely to be an achievement thatvery fewpeople acquire, given that it requires a second run through the game. Its rarity gives it value!
Absolutely majestic. Look at how incredibly tortured that pun is! What really brings it home for me, though, is that it will be earned byevery single personwho plays through thisveryshort game.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a 2023 sequel from Respawn Entertainment that continues the story of Cal Kestis, a Jedi Knight who fights to survive the brutal Galactic Empire.
When I first read this trophy’s name, I winced. That’s the sign of a damn good pun. Han Solo is, of course, a goldmine for those looking to make a lazy joke, but this may be my favorite example.
Also, can I just say, as an aside, that it is absurd that all the good Star Wars puns are in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, not in The Lego Star Wars Skywalker Saga. What happened there? You dropped the ball, Lego!
