Summary

Earlier today, during the Xbox Games Showcase,Microsoftrevealed its nextXboxconsole, which will be a handheld made in partnership with ASUS and will be called the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X.

It’ll boast AMD processors, 16GB of RAM at minimum, plus an SSD for storage purposes, according to a post on Xbox Wire. It’ll also be able to play games beyond what’s available onGame Pass, as it’ll supportPCstorefronts, AKA,Steam. Of course, given that Steam hasPlayStationgames for purchase, it begs wondering ifSonygames will be playable on the handheld. According to a new interview, it seems that’ll be the case.

PlayStation’s Presence On Xbox Hardware Was Up In The Air, According To Rumors

In a new post from Stephen Totilo and his Game File subscription, the journalist went hands-on with the upcoming handheld, which has been given a Holiday 2025 launch window. Beyond detailing his experience with the handheld, Totilo asked a Microsoft representative if it’d be able to run PlayStation games, to which the rep replied:

“Because these handhelds run Windows, you have access to all the games you can play on Windows PCs.”

In other words, yes.

It’s a rather matter-of-fact statement that doesn’t mention Sony or PlayStation by name, but essentially answers the question at hand. Previously, insider Jez Corden suggested that Sony could “block” access to its games on a potential handheld or Series X successor. At the same time, The Verge’s Tom Warren cast doubts on the potential for that type of action, making the whole situation rather confusing.

Now, it seems we have our answer, at least until one party says otherwise. Yes, the handheld will be able to play some PlayStation games. After all, it is an Xbox, right?
