Late last week, duringMicrosoft’s annualXbox Games Showcase, the companyrevealed its long-rumored handheld, a partnership with ASUS and its ROG brand for the Xbox ROG Ally, a handheld that willseemingly let you play everything, including PlayStation games that have been released on PC via Steam.
No other information was given, aside from a vague “Holiday 2025” window. Now, flash forward to today, and a reliable Xbox insider has shared some information about the upcoming piece of hardware, including when gamers will be able to pre-order it, its price, as well as a potential release date.
The Xbox ROG Ally Is Coming Sooner Than We All Could’ve Imagined
As first spotted on Reddit, insider eXtas1s has revealed that pre-orders for Microsoft’s first foray into the handheld market will begin as early as August, with October being eyed as a launch month.
When it comes to cost, this is where things start to get interesting. The ROG Xbox Ally, which will boast 16GB of memory, 512GB of storage, along with AMD’s Ryzen Z2 A chip will be €599.
However, for the Ally X, which will have AMD’s Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, plus 24GB of memory and 1TB of storage will reportedly be … €899.
That’s a rather steep price for a handheld, though bear in mind that the price almost assuredly accounts for VAT, meaning the United States price, if these prices are true, will be lower, though it will obviously scale with local and state taxes.
Either way, it does present a rather interesting scenario, given just how much fuss was made about the Switch 2 price. Then again, the Switch 2 hasn’t had any problems selling out, so perhaps Microsoft will see the same thing in a few months.
