It hasn’t been going well forXbox Game Studioslately, withfour rounds of layoffs in 18 months, several project cancellationsanda studio that closed without ever releasing a game. An even more recent setbackwas the announcement that The Outer Worlds 2 would be dropping in price, hardly a sign of a game with strong pre-orders.
However, a positive sign for Xbox is how well the games the company has ported to PlayStation 5 have been performing.Forza Horizon 5 is the best-selling game on PlayStation 5so far this year, and Sea of Thieves has sold over a million copies on the opposite console.
It would appear this cross-platform strategy is set to continue for PlayStation, as a senior game producer has hinted at “unannounced cross-platform” titles inher LinkedIn job description.
Xbox Game Studios Could Have More Unannounced Titles On The Way
Under Key Contributions, iAsia Brown’s job description reads, “Leading development pipelines for two unannounced cross-platform titles set for release in 2026.” It’s unknown when this description was written, but most upcoming Xbox Game Studios titles have been announced for years.
To aid in our speculation, here is a list of Xbox Game Studios titles that are announced but not yet released: State of Decay 3 (Undead Labs), Clockwork Revolution (InXile Entertainment), Gears of War: E-Day (The Coalition), The Elder Scrolls 6 (Bethesda), Contraband (Avalanche Studios), Blade (Arkane), OD (Kojima Productions) and Project Mara (Ninja Theory).
As for announced unannounced projects, Toys for Bob is currently working on a project for Xbox, widely believed to be a new Spyro game. Halo Studios is currently working on multiple projects, all of which are being developed on Unreal Engine 5.
Almost every Xbox Game Studios subsidiary is known to be currently working on at least one project, except Rare, which has just had Everwild cancelled by Xbox and Compulsion Games, which recently released South of Midnight.
This doesn’t necessarily mean that studios aren’t working on multiple projects. We’ve seen Obsidian Entertainment release five games in five years, including Grounded 2, which enters early access tomorrow.
The specific games referenced in the job description aren’t public, but there are plenty of options to choose from, both known and unknown.
It would appear that cross-platform first-party Xbox games are now the standard, and the publisher may even begin releasing them day one on PlayStation 5.
