Summary

In one of the most unexpected announcements of the night, the Wu-Tang Clan is getting its own “action RPG” by Brass Lion Entertainment, entitled Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver.

At the event, we received a brief trailer showcasing a 3D beat ‘em up with Spiderverse-esque visuals. The trailer didn’t give much away, but host Lucy James referred to the title as a “cooperative action RPG.”

Save Shaolin

The game’s premise involves the Wu-Tang Clan passing on their powers to a new generation of heroes to save their home of Shaolin. It’s a sort of crossover between the Wu-Tang Clan and their namesake, the Hong Kong martial arts film Shaolin and Wu Tang.

“Ghostface Killah is calling on you to rescue his Wu brothers - who aid you in your battle to save the dreams of the people. Defeat the forces of the Deceiver to elevate Shaolin into a hopeful and thriving community,” readsthe game’s website.

The gameplay appears to centre around defeating increasingly more powerful enemies in an arena, while earning the powers of the various Wu-Tang members along the way.

The soundtrack of Rise of the Deceiver will feature classic Wu-Tang Clan tracks and “new material, overseen by legendary producer Just Blaze.”

According to Brass Lion, the game was originally conceived as a tie-in to Angel of Dust, a “supernatural thriller produced by Ghostface Killah, to be directed by RZA…” It would appear Rise of the Deceiver has grown beyond that conception, but may still tie in to the movie in some form.

Brass Lion Entertainment is a New York-based entertainment studio, founded by Bryna Dabby Smith (Def Jam Vendetta, Sleeping Dogs) and Rashad Redic (Fallout 3, Skyrim). Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver appears to be Brass Lion’s debut title.

A release date was not given for Wu-Tang: Rise of the Deceiver.
