Wildgateis a fantastically intricate PvP game in which four players take on the roles of spaceship pilots and explorers who are pursuing an artifact in the far-flung reaches of space. However, you won’t be doing it alone. Your team will compete with other spaceship crews to loot and explore wild space, and potentially even fight one another for the artifact.
So, if you’re diving into Wildgate for the first time, you might be looking for some early game tips to get the edge on your competitors. Here are some beginner tips you’ll need to know to succeed in Wildgate.
There Are Multiple Ways To Win
When you first play through the tutorial of Wildgate, there’s a lot of emphasis placed on collecting the artifact and escaping through the portal known as the Wildgate as the victory condition. However, it’s important to note that,as a PvP game, there’s a secondary win condition.
It’s also important to note that having the artifact in tow makes you a target. So going for it when you’re not very defensively prepared can be quite dangerous.
In fact, the artifact never really needs to come into play at all.If your ship is the last one standingand all others have been destroyed, your team winsby default. Collecting the artifact can be a lot faster, but still, you have a backup if you so desire.
Throw Loot
When your crew investigates a nearby point of interest, you’ll typically have to fight your way through a handful of different monsters or complete a certain condition before you can access the loot room. This can prove time-consuming, so you mustempty the loot room as quickly as possibleand leave so that you don’t draw the attention of enemy player ships.
So, one easy way to make this happen is toform an assembly line. Have one or two players on your crewtoss items out of the loot room into open space. The items will float. So, you can thenhave secondary players collect them and quickly teleport back to the ship. This can save a little bit of time from having to fly back and forth each time you want to grab more loot, especially if the loot room is buried in the back of the location.
You Don’t Need To Take Everything
Loot rooms tend to havea lot of different items. This can include everything from new weapons for your turrets, shield boosters, to even weapons you can wield as an individual. While one strategy can involve taking every item, dumping them on your ship’s floor, and waiting to see what’s useful later,it’s also important to leave things behind sometimes.
Too much clutter can cause havoc on a ship. Plus,if enemy players invade your ship, they can take these items freely, so you’ll want to make sure you’re using whatever you have at your disposal, and aren’t wasting precious space on your ship with items you’re not even interested in equipping.
You Have Limited Upgrade Slots
When you take items from loot rooms that upgrade turrets or shields, you’ll want to keep in mind thatyou have a limited number of slots.Depending on how much you loot in a certain match,it’s very possible to run out of room to keep equipping upgrades.
As best you can, attempt to keep in mind when you’re going to loot if you’re full up on upgrades for your turrets or your ship in general. If this is the case, you might bebetter off hunting for fuel or ice, or even ammofor your ship in general. This is often more useful in ship combat anyway, especially if you already have a few good weapons attached to your hull.
Ship Failure Will Kill You Before Players Do
There’s a huge tendency to emphasize gunplay in PvP games. And, it’s true, there is a decently robust gunplay system in Wildgate. Between fighting enemy players on ships or bases, and the enemies inside points of interest all over the map, you’ll need tokeep track of your ammo and your weaponspretty consistently.
Make sure you have a healthy supply of iceon board to cool down your reactor and heal your ship.
However, if you’re already engaged in ship combat, or if you’ve suffered a collision of some kind, it’s important to note thatfires, broken windows, and an overheating reactor will kill you far fasterthan another player will. Place your emphasis on repairing your ship first before making offensive moves against other players. Of course, if another player is already on your ship, take them out first. Butdon’t wait to address issues like firesand broken windows or doors.
Stay Aware Of Your Surroundings In Turrets
This is a super easy mistake to make in your first few matches, particularly once you’re engaged in ship-to-ship combat. When you’re piloting the ship or operating a turret, your camera perspective will changeto that of the turret or ship’s POV itself. This makes it hard to stay aware of where your player-character is.
However, in ship-to-ship combat, it’s not uncommon to get so laser-focused on fighting the enemy ship that youforget to pay attention to your immediate surroundings. It’s really easy forenemy players to sneak onto your ship and target youif you’re in a turret. However, you’re able to also reverse this on your enemies and specifically target players driving the ship or using turrets to get the drop on them.
Invade Enemy Ships As A Group
If you do decide to invade an enemy ship by flying out into space, make sure youtake a buddy with you. It’s just really not possible to take out a reactor or an enemy team as a solo player. Someone is bound to notice you.
However, if you go at least as a duo or even a trio, at leastone person can heal while another plays more offensively. If you do choose to go in solo, just be ready to teleport back to your ship at the first sign of trouble. Otherwise, your attempt won’t be worth it.
Play Support Weapons
Someweapons in Wildgate can heal allies and damage enemiesat the same time. These weapons aren’t going to be as powerful as solely offensive weapons, but they can still deal some damage. Plus, it’s important at the end of the day to have at least one player supporting the team.
If nobody has any healing abilities at their disposal,it can be really easy for the respawn timer to slow you down. The respawn timer in Wildgate is pretty longat 15 seconds. And, you respawn on the ship, which can be far from the loot room at certain points of interest, so you may lose a ton of extra time by dying unnecessarily.
