InWuchang: Fallen Feathers, you’re going to discover a handful of different weapon types, each with their own unique skill tree and level-up system. While which weapons you favor may be dictated by your playstyle, or even what weapons you happen to find first, it’s important to note that there are also certain weapons that are better for certain enemies.
Not just that, but when it comes to bosses, picking the right weapon is important, as not every weapon has access to the same types of skills as the rest. Here’s how to know which weapon to pick in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
Weapon Types
There arefive different weapon typesyou can use throughout your journey.
All of these weapons have theirstrengths and weaknesses. And, as mentioned, personal playstyle is going to come into effect.
However, when it comes to dealing with certain types of enemies, bosses, or groups of combatants, certain weapons are going to be better at doing certain things.
Besides just having five separate weapon types, each weapon type also has a variety of different weapons within each category.
This means that you’re likely to come across multiple Dual Swords, Spears, and the like throughout your journey.
Which Weapon Is Best?
Broadly speaking, each weapon type has at least one pro and one con, which we’ve broken down in the table below:
Pros & Cons
Axes
Axes dohuge amounts of damageand are helpful for staggering enemies. Axes can also mitigate a ton of extra damage.
Mobility is severely limitedwhen wielding an axe.
Longswords
Longswords aregreat for parryingand offer perks togaining Skyborn Might fasterthan most weapons.
Like Axes, Longswords can alsoseverely weaken mobility and require two hands to wield.
One-Handed Swords
One-handed swords allow forincreased mobility and offer bonuses to spell attacks.
One-handed swordsdon’t do much damagecompared to other weapons, and aren’t great for staggering. They also don’t have much reach.
Dual Swords
Dual Swords offer a lot ofperks to the Clash ability, which allows you to mitigate a ton of damage without needing to parry or block.
Dual Swords also aren’t great for staggering, andrequire precise timing for Clash abilities. Overall, Dual Swords have a very high skill ceiling.
Spears
Spears have great reach, damage, and alsoallow for a ton of mobility.Spears can also prove effective against groups of enemies.
Spears arenot great for staggering enemies, and require you to use special attacks to block and parry.
When it comes to equipping weapons, verify you have at least two different weapon types equipped.
There’s not much point in using both of your weapon slots on Dual Swords or Spears.
When it comes to Axes, these weapons arebest for three things.
Axes pack a mighty punch and also offer a lot of Discipline Skills that allow you toblock and mitigate damage.
Of course, they are the heaviest of the weapons, meaning yourspeed is going to be severely reducedwhen wielding an axe. Ultimately, these weapons arebest used in the following combat encounters:
With rare exceptions, most of the axes in the game arenot good against bosses, as the bosses tend to move quickly.
Most Axe attacks require a decent wind-up, so you won’t be able to react very dynamically to quick follow-ups from bosses.
Longswords are agreat, versatile weaponthat are great for a lot of different situations.
Additionally, an early Longsword ability will grant you the ability togain a stack of Skyborn Might for every two-hit combo; far and away, the easiest way to gain Skyborn Might.
Longswordscan be slowjust like Axes, so you’ll want touse them for the following enemies:
Because Longswords havegreat parry abilities, they’re great for usage against other sword-wielders in the game as well as boss battles. Using a Longsword in a boss battle is a great way toquickly rack up Skyborn Might.
They’re alsogreat against Madness Demons, as you can parry these combatants quite easily with Longswords.
One-Handed Swords are great if you want to primarilyuse spellcasting in tandem with your weapon attacks, as you may easily rack up Skyborn Might and bonuses to your spellcasting damage while wielding these weapons.
Keep in mind, to unlock many of the perks these weapons have, you’ll need to spend Red Mercury Essence in the Impetus Repository.
One-Handed Swords also have alot of bonuses to feathering damage, so if you have armor that helps in this regard as well, One-Handed Swords can prove extremelyuseful in the following types of encounters:
Ultimately, One-Handed Swordsaren’t the biggest damage doers, but can prove highly useful when you need to stay mobile and alert.
Dual Swords have one very important advantage over other weapons:their Clash ability.
Clash allows you to attack and deflect an enemyat the same time by timing your strikes correctly.
While it is hard to pull off, if you can get the timing down right, this abilitycan mitigate a lot of damage and prove potentin terms of offense.
There is at leastone boss in the gamefor which the game’s tutorial will actually recommend that youuse Clash and Dual Swords to defeat them.
Try to practice this ability somewhat, as you’ll find this battle a lot easier. You canfind this boss in the Tang Palace.
In this regard, Dual Swords aregreat for the following encounters:
Dual Swords are ultimatelyhighly versatile if you may upgrade and perfect your Clash ability.
Lastly, Spears are ahighly mobile weapon type that has great reach. This makes them great for hitting groups of enemies all at once, while staying mobile.
Spears have a system known as Boldheart, which allows you tostack Skyborn Might with successive combo hits. However, like most other skills, you will also have to upgrade this through the Impetus Repository.
In this regard, Spears aregreat for the following types of encounters:
Spears alsoallow you to parry and deflect a variety of incoming attacks. However, you will have to use your Discipline Skills to do this, and also master their timing. Unlike Axes and Longswords, which allow for a more forgiving block,Spears require precise timing.
But if you can master this timing, youcan mitigate incoming damage and attack enemiesin the same swing, which is highly effective.
