Maomao
Maomao is an awesome character. She has shining green hair, is obsessed with poison. and is completely oblivious to all the attention she garners. She’s reliable, and while she doesn’t mind helping people, she is blunt, honest, smart, and poison and science will always come first for her.
It’s obvious that Maomao is an Aries. She’s fiery, passionate, and impulsive, as all Aries are. She works hard and keeps her head down, but always has a plan. And, at the end of the day, she fights for what she wants and for the people she cares about. It often ends with her hurt (or her arms burnt), but that’s just who she is.

Concubine Lihua
Concubine Lihua is absolutely beautiful. She has long blue hair and big, stunning eyes that make her stand out in a crowd. Tragically, she loses her son to poison early in the show. However, she is incredibly resilient and finds a way through that, even becoming pregnant again. She is strong and an incredibly admirable personwho loves the emperor.
This gorgeous concubine is a total Taurus. Tauruses are resilient, smart, and straightforward. They appreciate loyalty while leaning into luxury, which makes sense for someone of her high status.

Luomen
Luomen is Maomao’s adopted father. He was sent away from the Imperial Palace in disgrace, though episodes reveal that he was used as a scapegoat more than anything. He’s incredibly intelligent, and teaches Maomao everything she knows about apothecaries and science.
Geminis, you’re this awesome father. Geminis are particularly attuned to scientific pursuits and make great parents. They are very good at articulating their thoughts to help others, which makes them perfect for roles as doctors and apothecaries.
9Cancer
Gyokuyo
Concubine Gyokuyo is an absolute sweetheart. Despite her high status, she looks out for her staff, including Maomao, and goes out of her way to make sure that everyone who works under her is comfortable and safe. She’s a very likable character, and it’s because of her that Maomao moves up in the Imperial palace.
Gyokuyo fans are clearly Cancers. Cancers are nurturing and maternal and put others' needs before their own. They care a lot about those around them, just as Gyokuyo does. And of course, they’re approachable and sweet, but intelligent with enough of an edge to move up the ladder when they need to.
8Leo
Jinshi
Jinshi is a gorgeous man with a lot of secrets. He has stunning purple hair and is used to being the center of attention. Everyone fawns around him, except, of course,the girl he desires,Maomao. He is working undercover at the imperial palace, to the delight of many of the women that work there.
Jinshi, the beautiful and mysterious crown prince, is a Leo. Leos are used to being the center of attention and are known to be absolutely beautiful. They’re also charismatic and talk to people easily, just as Jinshi does.
7Virgo
Ah-Duo
Lady Ah-Duo is a beautiful woman who used to be the pure consort. She is an incredible secret keeper, and it is heavily implied that she’s Jinshi’s mother. She has strong maternal instincts, and became a very important figure to Lady Lishu. She has a lot of influence over people within the court.
Lady Ah-Duo is one of the most interesting characters out there, and Virgos, you get to be this amazing woman. Virgos are incredibly practical people who work hard to solve problems without needing to be in the limelight.
6Libra
Lishu
Lishu is the youngest concubine, and a very sweet girl. She’s a little naive because she wants to trust those around her. She’s straight forward and looking for friends. Despite being bullied by her own lady in waiting, she always holds her head high.
Libras have the same traits as Lishu. They are hard workers who hate conflict and try to keep the peace. Despite that, they are diplomatic and compassionate, and want to be loved, just as Lishu does.
5Scorpio
Gaoshun
Gaoshun is Jinshi’s right-hand man. He is stoic, and is often the one pulling the strings. He’s what you might call ‘quiet but deadly.’ He doesn’t make moves that you can outright see, but much of what happens is the outcome of something he has said or done. He gives others advice, is in Jinshi’s ear, and is a strong and trustworthy employee.
If you’re a Scorpio, then you’re absolutely Gaoshun. You’re able to keep secrets and work in the background in order to achieve what you need. You’re trustworthy, strong, and a bit too sneaky for your own good.
4Sagittarius
The Emperor
The emperor is a character that we don’t get to see too much of until the second season. At first, he’s this intimidating figure that has multiple concubines and seems almost untouchable. However, the more we get tiny peeks of him, the kinder he seems. He supports Jinshi and even Maomao when needed.
To have a position like this one, you’d have to be a Sagittarius. They are known to be adventurous and funny, with a vast amount of knowledge, which makes them good leaders (even if they don’t want to be).

Madam
The Madam is a business owner who takes care of those who work for her. She basically adopted Maomao and took care of her whenever she needed anything. The Madame is strict and rough around the edges, but she loves her deeply and would do anything for her girls.
Capricorns, you knew this was coming. You’re the madame. You’re strict and can be rough, even to the point of being misunderstood. But underneath that tough exterior, she’s a softie.
