If you’ve exhausted the main Cyrodiil map inOblivion Remastered, and you want toexplore every crevice of the Shivering Isles, you can do that for the Taxonomy of Obsessions side quest. Taxonomy of Obsession is a collection-based side quest that requires you to collect over 25 ingredients and four beasts from across the Shivering Isles.
Mirili Ulven is a Dark Elf researcher who loves to categorize everything around her, and her current research is focused on the plants and animals you’ll find in the Shivering Isles. While collecting the plants won’t be too difficult, prepare for a challenge when Mirili asks for help with beasts.
This quest is extremely glitchy, and Mirili can sometimes repeatedly kill the beasts you bring her by accident.
consider save using multiple slots before you begin.
How To Start Taxonomy Of Obsession
To begin Taxonomy of Obsession, head to the northern section of the Shivering Isles to a small town calledHighcross– there are three houses on a hill.
Here, you’ll findMirili Ulven, who (rudely) tells you about a taxonomy she’s compiling. First, persuade her toraise her disposition to at least 60,or she won’t talk to you about any details.
Once you’ve gotten Mirili to like you, go along with her request for help, and you’ll begin the Taxonomy of Obsession.
How To Collect All The Ingredients For Mirili
CheckMirili’s Listin your inventory to find a list of the items you’ll need. Here is the full list of ingredients she requests in the note:
Make sure you grab the Alocasia Fruit and Worm’s Head samples from just outside Mirili’s house.
Most of these items can be found simply by harvesting everything you see in the Shivering Isles. However, you must killScalons for Scalon Fins and Shambles for Bone Marrow(must be level seven or higher).
If you’re having trouble finding any of the ingredients, here’s where you can check for each one:
Between Mirili’s and Bruscus' house
Near shorelines
Swampy areas
Both
Outside Mirili Ulven’s House.
You can check in with Mirili on your progress by exiting and reentering dialogue with her.
If you want to find everything, it’s better to keep track of what you have in your inventory separately to ensure you don’t miss anything.
Once you’ve gotten enough items from Mirili’s list (you don’t need to find everything on the list she asked for), speak to her again and she’ll ask you to remember toask about her bestiary.
How To Collect All The Beasts For Mirili
Select the ‘Mirili’s Bestiary’ option from the conversation options, and she’ll ask you to bring her a Baliwog and offer to sell the following spells:
Once you’ve bought the spell that corresponds to your current level, you’ll need to head out in search of a Baliwog.
These spells aregoverned by the Illusion school of magic,so you’ll need to raise your level in that area if you want to use the best version of the spell she has.
Here are each of the four monsters you’ll need to bring her, and the number of ingredients needed before she asks you to bring each animal:
This part can be extremely tricky, so it’s a good idea to save before you attempt to bring any of these beasts to Mirili.
You must lead each creature to Miriliso she can subdue it once the command creature spell wears off.
You don’t have to use the spell if you’d prefer to let monsters chase you across the land, and this can even be faster than the walking speed while under the command spell.
Do not attempt to bring Mirili multiple beasts at once or bring them to her out of order. Mirili can accidentally kill certain beasts as an intended part of the quest, but bringing her multiple aggressive monsters at once will break her AI.
Doing so will cause Mirili to repeatedly kill the beasts you bring to her while she yells at you not to kill them.
Keep a Calm spell ready so Mirili doesn’t kill the beasts you bring her. In addition, it’s a good idea to preparesome of the best Restoration spellsyou can cast so that Mirili doesn’t accidentally kill each beast.
Assuming everything goes according to plan, you should lead the creature to Mirili using her Command Creature spells, then, once the spell wears off, Mirili will attack the beast.
Attacking is normal, but make sure to keep healing the creature if Mirili attacks multiple times in a row. Eventually, Mirili will stop her attacks and use a spell that should paralyze the beast and subdue it.
From here, she should thank you and continue the quest, asking for an Elytra, Gnarl, then Scalon after the Baliwog.
What Rewards Do You Get From Taxonomy Of Obsession?
Once you bring Mirili Ulven one of each ingredient she asks for, she will not ask for any more of them. You receive ten gold for each ingredient you bring.
Once you bring her each of the beasts on her list, Mirili will reward you withgold according to your level.
