SomePalworldupdates introduce major new features—and Tides of Terraria is no exception. One of its most exciting additions is the ability to go fishing. This update brings a wave of aquatic-themed content, including new mini-islands and Pals that enhance or benefit from the fishing mechanic.
Among them is Ghangler, a rather ironic deep-sea anglerfish-inspired Pal. Despite its terrifying appearance and tendency to feast on fallen Pals, its Palpedia entry claims it safely guides lost Pals back home. If you’re looking to track down this fascinating and eerie creature, this guide will show you exactly where to find and catch Ghangler.
Where To Find Ghangler
Ghangler is a terrifying-looking Dark- and Water-type Pal that resembles an anglerfish. If you’re hoping to catch one, note that Ghangler can only be found on a single island added in the Tides of Terraria update. This island, called Phantom Isle, is locatedat coordinates -909, -202.To reach it, you’ll need a flying or swimming mount, and there are two main routes.
The first route starts at the Sakurajima – Southern Sand Bar fast travel point, located on the southwestern edge of Sakurajima Island. From there, head southwest over the ocean to reach Phantom Isle. The second option begins at Ruined Fortress City, north of Mount Obsidian. Head north to the coast, then travel westward across the sea until you arrive.
On Phantom Isle, you’ll find wild Ghanglers roaming, oftenabove the large rock formation in the center. If they aren’t present, leave the island and return later to respawn them. Ghanglers range from level 30 to 40 and are aggressive. Since they are both Water and Dark type,Electric- and Dragon-type Pals are strong counters in battle.
How To Breed Ghangler
Another way to obtain Ghangler is byhatching it from aLarge Dark Egg, which can be found in the wild. Alternatively, you may breed specific pairs of Pals at theBreeding Farmto produce this egg. Valid breeding combinations are listed in the table below:
Kitsun Noct
Items Dropped By Ghangler
When caught or defeated, Ghanglermay dropBoneandVenom Gland. However, it’s not an ideal Pal for farming these items.Rushoaris a better source of Bone, whileDaedreamandDepressoare more efficient for farming Venom Glands. Overall, Ghangler is not a highly rewarding Pal in terms of item drops.
Partner Skill & Work Suitability
Ghangler’s partner skill, Master Night Angler, has two practical uses. Once youunlock and craft the Ghangler Saddle at level 37from the Technology Tree, you can ride Ghangler as a water mount. It moves quickly in water, making it a reliable travel companion. Required materials for the saddle include:
20
10
Paldium Fragment
25
When Ghangler is in your party, the time it takes for fish to bite while fishing at night is significantly reduced. This makes nighttime fishing much faster and more efficient.
Beyond its partner skill, Ghangler is also useful in your base.It has a Watering level of four and a Transporting level of two, making it a great choice for water-related tasks. It’s a strong alternative to high-tier Pals likeJormuntideor Faleris Aqua for watering roles.
Passive Skills
When choosing a Ghangler, consider passive skills that increase stamina. The best option is Eternal Engine, but Infinite Stamina is a good alternative. For aquatic efficiency, King of the Waves enhances its swimming speed. Other solid choices include Ace Swimmer or Sleek Stroke, both of which improve its mobility in water.
