Thorny Hill Speed Surf is a challenge course inDonkey Kong Bananza. You can find the entrance to this stage in the second major area in the game, the Hilltop Layer, to the northeast of the Construction Site Teleport spot at the base of the small mountain.
This level requires you to use Donkey Kong’s Turf Surf ability to maneuver around a deadly obstacle course filled with thorns and spiked walls. Like every other challenge course in Donkey Kong Bananza, there are three hidden Banandium Gems throughout Thorny Hill Speed Surf that can be hard to find if you don’t know where to look.
Where To Find The First Banandium Gem
You will be rewarded with the first Banandium Gem forclearing the challenge course within the time limit. You will have exactly60 secondsto make it across the finish line, which should be plenty of time once you figure out the intricacies of the route.
Instead of ripping up the floor, use one of the boulders that drops from an enemy before the starting line for Turf Surf. They are much smaller and will make your journey easier.
Where To Find The Second Banandium Gem
you’re able to earn the second Banandium Gem bycompleting the course with twenty seconds lefton the clock. Practice makes perfect, so you might need toplay through the level a couple of timesto figure out the quickest and safest route.
Don’t worry about moving around the spiked walls; you should be able to jump over them to save yourself a bunch of time.
Where To Find The Third Banandium Gem
The final Banandium Gem ishidden at the very end of the course, behind the barrel that launches you back into the overworld. There isa wall behind the barrel.Jump over itto claim your prize.
How To Complete Thorny Hill Speed Surf
The first thing you want to do is claim your ride for the upcoming challenge. Instead of ripping up a part of the floor,use one of the boulders from an enemyfor a smaller rock that will make your journey easier. Instead of punching the enemy, simplyhit R2 when you’re facing oneto rip the boulder right off its back, thenhit L2 to start the Turf Surf.
Mash Y to increase your speed, andjump over the spiked wallsto save yourself some time. Yourboulder gets smaller the more you move, but you won’t need to worry about replacing it until youreach the second enemy along the course.
There aretwo shortcutsalong the way that are marked with Banana Chips that are worth taking to helpshave a couple of secondsoff your run. Just stay steady and avoid unnecessary movements to clear these shortcuts with ease so you can reach the finish line with time to spare.
