InDate Everything, the title tells you everything you need to know before you even boot up the game. Great selling point. you’re able to indeed date everything, from the very bed you sleep on, to the nightmares you have when you go to sleep in that bed. There are so many characters to choose from. You can even make them hate you if you want.
But when it comes to a game of this scale, there’s going to be more than a few characters that will hit the cutting room floor. you’re able to’t literally make every object in your house unique. And that’s where Daemon comes in. They are an unconventional character by all means, more an examination of a concept than the concept itself.
How To Meet Daemon
You can meet Daemon incredibly early on in the game, from the moment you get your freedom to explore the house and awaken the many Dateables spread throughout. In fact, Daemon is in your bedroom, right in plain sight. They’re just not what you might expect, nor are you introduced to them after the first time you speak with them.
Daemon is spoken with through the dresser in your room, they are aren’t the dresser itself. And the first time you talk with Daemon, they won’t even appear. You’ll instead be presented with some garbled text, which with subsequent meetings will finally become legible. And it is at this point you will finally realise that Daemon is a glitch. And unintentional character. They don’t quite apply by the rules of the game itself. They are an oddity.
Talking with Daemon isn’t like other characters, either. The actual flow of conversation is non-existent, withone nonsensical statement after another moving into each otheruntil Daemon cuts the conversation short. Regardless, if you want to spent time with this living enigma, all you have to do is interact with your dresser. They aren’t going anywhere.
After you talk to Daemon for the first time, you can see the reflection of the dresser distorting and glitching in the mirror.
How To Change Your Relationship Status With Daemon
Being as unusual as they are,Daemon works a bit differentlyin this regard. With most other Dateables, outside of a few exceptions, you have to play through their whole story of multiple conversations before you’re able to get an ending with them. This makes sense, though Daemon is not a character that makes sense in the context of the game.
In Daemon’s case, you will actually get an ending with them before they are even properly introduced to you, and the ending won’t actually be with Daemon, but with Deenah. You see, Daemon, being the embodiment of a cut character, gives you an ending with the character that was cut, not with them. And that is how it will be recorded in the Date-a-Dex.
This ending is also whatever you choose it to be, rather than a culmination of your choices. The choices are literally the endings. Here they are:
You choose exactly what you want. Here’s the other caveat with Daemon that is also different from every other Dateable -You can change this ending whenever you want. Just talk with them again and they will present these same choices to you, letting you change the ending whenever you with. This ending will always technically be with Deenah, the character Daemon represents, but functionally it is for Daemon.
What Is Daemon Exactly?
So, Daemon is not technically a character in their own right. They are the embodiment of cut charactersin the game, but speak to you more directly as a player, rather than as the protagonist of the game. It is very meta, fourth-wall breaking, all of that. In particular, they represent the character of Deenah, a character that isn’t even in the game.
Deenah was cut from the game. When Daemon conjures up her form, you can get an idea of what she was intended to look like. Originally, she would have been the dresser that you interact with Daemon through, but it was decided, in Daemon’s words at least, to cut her since she wouldn’t have stood out in her own right. Dasha and Abel already fulfilled the purpose of tables and desks, and it would have been hard to keep Deenah unique in that context.
However, since Daemon exists only to convey this story, rather than as a character of their own, they function differently. They don’t have their own story, and so they can change your ending on request. However, they also escape the confines of the game, literally. During their conversations, they can drag you into random parts of the game, such as those outside of the home.
If you ever wanted to seesome of the out-of-bounds areas in the game, Daemon is a great way to see some of them.
