To survive the harsh climate of Arrakis, you must be crafting constantly. As you move from region to region inDune: Awakening, things do get much harder. In turn, you will need to create more durable gear. This can come in the form of Steel, which will allow you to make longer-lasting equipment.

On top of that, this metal also gives you more options for what you can create. So, Steel can be worthwhile to harvest. However, because of its importance, it can be harder to get. If you use this guide, it’ll show you all the steps you can take to quickly obtain Steel.

How To Get Steel

Some resources, likeCopper and Granite, you can find in the wild. But, for Steel or Steel Ingot, there’s awhole processthat needs to be done.

First, the metal is made out ofother resources. So you’ll need to find the following ingredients to make it.

Carbon Ore

Carbon Ore is extracted fromCarbon stone pilesfound throughout theEastern Vermillius Gap region, which isnorth of the starter areaof Hagga Basin South. The rock piles will havecrystals stickingout of them. Their distinct appearance makes them easier to spot.

To mine for Carbon Ore, you’ll need theCutteray Mk2.

There will also be some Carbon Ore lying on the ground next to the large piles. You don’t need to mine them. Simply pick the Carbon Ore up, and it’ll go into your backpack.

Iron Ingot

To obtain an Iron Ingot, you’ll need torefine it from an Iron Ore. To get this resource, locate anIron stone pile located in the Eastern Vermillius Gap. You can tell a stone pile is an Iron one because it’ll havewhite rocksall over it.

Once you’ve found an Iron stone pile, use theCutteray Mk 1to break it down. This will yield a high amount of Iron Ore.

Afterward, head to your base and make aSmall Ore Refineryif you don’t have one. Then, put the Iron Ore in the refinery to convert it into an Iron Ingot.

You’ll also need Water on top of the Iron Ore to complete the procedure.

Water

The best way to get large amounts of water early on in Dune: Awakening is throughtheBlood Purifier.Whenever you down an enemy and take their blood, put it in thepurifier to get a high quantity of Waterin a short amount of time.

When you have enough,you can drink it. However, to make Steel, ensure you’ve leftaround 50 mlin reserve.

How To Make Steel

Now that you have all the ingredients mentioned above, you should be able to make Steel.

This process can be done with any refinery, but if you’re still in the early parts of the game, theSmall Ore Refinery will be enough.

You won’t need Literjon to store the Water. The Small Ore Refinery will count the Water in the Blood Purifier towards the creation of Steel. This allows you to use the Water directly from the purifier.

Approach the machine and select the Steel optionon the left bar. Assuming you have all the ingredients ready, you may freely start the refining process for Steel Ingots.
