(The answer: yes)
Next up, whether the game will have Skill-Based Matchmaking (SBMM), and if so, just how it’ll work.
Battlefield 6 Will Have SBMM, But Not In The Traditional Sense, It Seems
As first spotted by Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, Battlefield 6 will have some sort of SBMM at launch. However, it’ll be different from how people generally view the mechanism.
Specifically, it’ll focus on the following factors:
What’s more, it’ll also vary based on game modes and player count, though that last bit is unclear, particularly when it comes to which modes will have a heavier hand than others.
For some time now, the concept of SBMM has been a rather contentious topic in multiplayer circles, even though it’s reportedly not a new mechanism, with Activision asserting that it dates back in Call of Duty to 2007 and Modern Warfare.
Still, that hasn’t stopped fans from being frustrated with things, with users finding loopholes in privacy laws to find out where exactly they stand.
With respect to BF6, users became outraged at the prospect of SBMM after it was discovered via datamine that the system would be present in the game. However,a lead producer quickly asked fans to calm down about something they didn’t quite fully grasp.
As of this writing, there’s just 68 days until Oct. 10. By then, we’ll know for sure just how heavy-handed SBMM is, and whether it’ll be a major talking point of Battlefield 6’s debut.
