Rarely does a game launch with as much deep and celebrated lore asDune: Awakening. The Dune universe has decades upon decades of books, movies, and a wide amount of public interest, which means that many people have already spent a lot of time thinking of themselves in the world of Dune.

But, Dune: Awakening does a great job at establishing the world(s) and lore of Dune for people who have no experience with it whatsoever, easing you into it without telling things too slowly. That being said, if you’re looking for a little more information to go on mechanically, we’ve got all your bases covered.

Chusuk

Chusuk is a much more beautiful world, full of artistic landscapes and artistic people. It’s considered the Music Planet, and is the Imperium’s cultural hub. For a character that’s more creatively inclined, this would be an inspired choice.

Your Casterepresents what class of society your character comes from. This is also going to give you another Dialogue Trait, as well as be important for those role-playing their characters. Apart from that, this doesn’t affect your character mechanically much at all.

Dialogue Trait

Bondsman

Bondsmen areessentially the middle class. They’re educated, but they work for the ruling class, as opposed to actually being the ones making the decisions that affect them.

Na-Familia

No-Familiaare the ruling class. They have extra privileges that other people don’t, and can get away with things they shouldn’t necessarily be able to get away with.

Nobility

Pyon

Pyonsare the peasants, the ones doing the backbreaking labor with little to show for it. They are considered the property of their lord, and their lives largely depend on how their lord decides to treat them.

What Mentor/Starting Class Should You Choose?

In terms of gameplay mechanics, this is the meatiest choice of character creation. This isgoing to determine which skills are the most available for your character to learn; it’s not that you can’t learn skills from other classes eventually, but this is essentially going to beyour starting class, and will likely form the basis for your build.

Swordmaster

Swordmasters areconsidered the most skilled fighters there are. Their skills are widely respected, and the skill is taught like a mental skill as much as a physical one.

They are primarily amelee-centric class, and if that appeals to you, this is going to be your best option.
