The Old Key is one of a handful of prizes you can earn at the Festival inClair Obscur: Expedition 33’s prologue. Naturally, it must unlock something, but what? As it turns out, on the entire expanse of the Continent, the Old Key unlocks a single hidden door that you can easily just walk right past.

How To Get The Old Key
The Old Key canonly be obtained during the Festival, the night before Expedition 33 sets out.That means that your only opportunity to get it isafter the Gommage but before leaving Lumiere for good.

You get as many tries as you want for both objectives, so don’t worry about missing out on getting all of the Tokens and the prizes at all three tents.
Where To Use The Old Key
The Old Key doesn’t come into play untilmidway through Act 2, so it’s understandable if you’ve forgotten that you’re even carrying it around when the time comes to use it. The door it unlocks is inOld Lumiere, the main objective of the first half of the Act.
Shorlty after entering Old Lumiere,the party gets split up.You’ll play asLune, Sciel, and Monoco’s group first, then switch toMaelle and Versolater. The Old Key’s door is on Maelle and Verso’s path.
If you’re returning to Old Lumiere later in the game,use Expedition Flags to fast travel to Left Street. This will drop you off at the start of Maelle and Verso’s route; you can then follow the directions below as normal.
From the Left Street Flag,proceed along the path until you pass through a ruined doorway.From there, look for apath on the rightthat leads to alarge, broken pipejutting out from the destroyed street.
Jump into the hole in the pipe and turn around; the gate that the Old Key unlocks is there, inside the pipe.
What Do You Get For Using The Old Key?
Inside the gate is aJournal from the early days of the Fracture. That makes it theoldest Journal available in the game, and if you don’t buy the Old Key from Colette it’s impossible to get. Once you’ve collected the Journal, you caninteract with the chroma at the edge of the pipeto create a rope and climb back out.
