Shiny Pokemon have been around ever since the second generation, and thePokemon TCGfrequently celebrates these rare, beloved Pokemon with entire sets dedicated to them. Shiny Pokemon have been a huge draw if you like collecting rare variants, with legendary sets like Hidden Fates andStormfront boasting some brilliantly designed alternate color palettes.

If you love shiny Pokemon and want to find every one the Pokemon TCG has to offer, then these are the best sets for you. We’ll take you on a walk down memory lane with some of the oldest sets that had shinies, and bring you to modern times, with sets still lingering on store shelves.

The Platinum Arceus Ponyta from the Pokemon TCG.

8Platinum Arceus

Old School Favorites

Platinum Arceus takes us way back to the late 2000s, as this mid-vintage set stands out with some of the fore-runners of modern shiny-themed sets. Shiny reverse holo Pokemon, like Ponyta, appear as the main draws of this set, putting the focus on alternate palettes of common Pokemon.

If you can get your hands on these packs for an affordable price, then the set offers very exciting potential for valuable shiny Pokemon, though you might not find your favorite Pokemon here.

The Shiny Duskull from Stormfront in the Pokemon TCG.

7Stormfront

Hidden Gems

Stormfront is similar to Platinum Arceus and was released in the same year, explaining the clear link between the visual similarities between the shiny cards in these sets. The reverse holo style returns, with more Pokemon who might not usually get the spotlight basking in it here.

The Duskull from Stormfront stands out as probably the most visually eye-catching card in the set, and commands a hefty price to boot. However, the big downside to both Stormfront and Platinum Arceus is the ever-rising cost of the packs, making it hard to justify opening these sets if you want to make money.

The Shining Fates Mewtwo GX from the Pokemon TCG.

6Shining Legends

The Mewtube Rises

The shiny Mewtwo GX from Shining Legends continues to surge in value, as this once-affordable card now stands tall as one of the most valuable shiny Pokemon in the entire TCG. While this set is much more recent than Platinum Arceus or Call of Legends, itsrelease during the Sun & Moon eramakes it difficult to find affordably.

While this set is slowly becoming difficult to justify opening based on the rising cost, the Mewtwo GX could be a hit worth risking it all for, with gem mint copies selling for thousands of dollars.

Supreme Victors Milotic Pokemon TCG Card Art.

5Supreme Victors

Glowing

Supreme Victors is probably one of the least-known Pokemon sets of all time, and shares a similar release time as Platinum Arceus and Stormfront, with this set dropping in 2009. You’ll immediately notice the return of the reverse holo rare style, though, with some more popular Pokemon featured.

Milotic is the highlight of the set, with this beautiful Pokemon standing out as the chase card of the set. If you want to opt for a rarer mid-vintage set to open, this is probably the best option, thanks to the variety of other great hits in addition to the shiny Pokemon.

The Rayquaza from Call Of Legends in the Pokemon TCG.

4Call Of Legends

Dragons And More

Jumping ahead two more years to 2011, we have Call of Legends, which focused less on the bright shimmering reverse holo style and opted for a simple, elegant design focused on the Pokemon. The incrediblyexpensive Rayquaza from Call of Legends stands out as one of the most valuableand visually appealing cards in the set.

If you’re looking for a group of high-value shiny chase cards to hunt, then Call of Legends gives you a huge possible ROI. Rayquaza and Lugia are two of the biggest names that stand out among the best shiny Pokemon to collect in Call of Legends.

The Hidden Fates Charizard GX from the Pokemon TCG.

3Hidden Fates

Shining Bright

Hidden Fates is a beautiful set with a huge variety of valuable cards, including one ofthe best Cynthia cards of all time. The set is augmented by the Shiny Vault, which contains dozens of shiny Pokemon along with some trainers paired with shiny Pokemon.

While the Charizard GX catches your eye as the obvious chase card and one of the most expensive shiny Pokemon ever, you’ll find plenty of other expensive cards to pull, which give you a legitimate chance of getting something good, and maybe even a good chance of recouping the cost of the packs.

The Shining Fates Shiny Charizard VMAX from the Pokemon TCG.

Charizard Leading

Shining Fates is probably one of the cheapest options on this list, giving you a real chance to open several packs with the chance of getting a beautiful hit. While there are way fewer options than Hidden Fates, this set is more affordable, but the Charizard is far less exciting than the Charizard GX.

With a lower price comes cheaper chase cards, but if you want to collect shiny Pokemon on a budget, then Shining Fates packs should be a solid option when you can find them, as they rarely appear in most retail locations.

The Paldean Fates Mew ex SIR from the Pokemon TCG.

1Paldean Fates

A Mew For You

At the top of the pile is Paldean Fates, which might not have the highest total value of shiny cards, but is easily the most accessible shiny-themed Pokemon TCG set. As a Scarlet & Violet set, Paldea Evolved is still a relatively recent release compared to others on the list, making it easier to find than any other set mentioned.

The Mew ex that sits atopthe most valuable cards from Paldean Fatesis easily one of the most iconic shiny Pokemon cards ever, despite its short career thus far. Expect this card’s presence to carry this set, which also features plenty of baby shiny cards to collect.
