This might be an unpopular opinion, but I believeSpace Marine 2’scosmetics are excellent. The optional DLC has provided players with the ability to buy blinged-out gear for their characters to wear in PvE and PvP modes, and it looks amazing.
However, there’s one crucial Chapter missing from the line-up:the Iron Hands. The sons of Ferrus Manus are a personal favourite of mine thanks to their bionic enhancements andclose ties to the Adeptus Mechanicus, but their augmented bodies are nowhere to be seen on the battlefields of Space Marine 2 right now.
Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 Has Cosmetics With A Catch
I don’t even like the White Scars or the Space Wolves, but their gear looks fantastic. I’ll even grit my teeth and bear the Ultramarine fella, seeing as his plumage and purity seals make me look like a god among mortals on the battlefield.
Then you’ve got the cool Chapters. The Imperial Fist Tactical Marine oozes regal poise and the swooshing robes of the Dark Angels are enough to make me play the combat-oriented Bulwark class, against my better judgement.
you may practically feel the heat coming off the Salamander’s armour and dissipating into an unsuspecting Hormagaunt’s flesh with the satisfying sizzle of a steak placed in a hot pan. Why theSalamanderswere chosen to represent the Sniper class, I have no idea, but at least they look cool while taking potshots from afar.
The fact that these paid cosmetic DLC pay for free updates that include new game modes is the icing on the Imperial cake.
That’s the one downside to these cosmetics. They’re not customisable like other unlockable armour, and all are locked to one specific class. you’re able to play as a Dark Angels Tactical Marine, but it will just be a Dark Angels coloured Tactical Marine. It won’t have any of the bells, whistles, robes, or feathers. You know, all the things that make you look cool.
That’s why I was gutted when the Heavy role, obviously a perfect fit for my beloved Iron Hands, was taken by an Ultramarines cosmetic. While developer Saber Interactive might revisit each role again to furnish them with another cosmetic character each, I imagine the heretical players might be served next.
I was resigned to my fate as a boring, black-armoured warrior. Until I heard about the new class coming to the game.
What Will Techmarines Do In Space Marine 2?
Techmarines are coming to Space Marine 2. Yes, you heard me right. Techmarines. What vehicles will they fix? Who knows. What purpose will they serve? Who cares? I’m just glad that the Iron Hands will finally have their souped-up armour set.
This is a perfect addition to the game for me, personally. I am currently converting my third Techmarine Dreadnought, which will be painted in Iron Hands colours alongside my seven other regular Dreadnoughts. My legion of Techmarines accompany them into battle, and my born-again Ferrus Manus conversion will lead the line, Forgebreaker in hand.
It’s safe to say I love Techmarines. I will main a Techmarine in Space Marine 2 even if its abilities are functionally useless (sorry, teammates). I hope that my servo harness will have some functionality - repairing the Dreadnought in Siege mode would be a great addition to its kit, even if it would be redundant in other modes.
As well as introducing an interesting new class, this will be the perfect opportunity to add the Iron Hands cosmetic to the game. I’m picturing robotic legs, implants instead of eyes, the full shebang. The loyal tenth are finally going to get their cyborg main.
There’s just one problem. What if Saber pulls a Salamanders on us? What if the Techmarine cosmetic is another Ultramarine? What if it turns the character into an heretical Iron Warriors Warpsmith instead? These are all questions with answers that don’t beat thinking about. I’ve got my heart set on Iron Father Feirros but could end up with Papa Smurf.
I understand why Saber locks each cosmetic to one class, but it doesn’t stop it from irking me. Each class wears a different set of armour, so limiting paid cosmetics allows the designers to push the boat out further. That said, the restrictions can be infuriating. Why can’t the Salamander wield any kind of flamer or melta weaponry? Why do some pieces of DLC come with cool optional upgrades to your regular, non-premium skins and others don’t?
I won’t pretend to understand the logic here, but I can only hope for better in the future. At the bare minimum, I can hope for the next piece of DLC to let me play as the Iron Father I’ve always imagined in my head. The flesh is weak. Saber, let me grow strong.
