In his review forAvatar: Frontiers of Pandora, TheGamer’s Eric Switzer hailed it as"the best-looking game of the year.“I feel like the game came out not even 12 months ago, but somehow, it’ll already be turning two this December. Frontiers of Pandora, developed byThe DivisionandStar Wars Outlawsmaker Massive Entertainment and published byUbisoft, has seen numerous post-launch updates including two story packs and an additional graphics setting on consoles.

A well-timed tie-in for the upcoming third entry in James Cameron’s film series,Avatar: Fire and Ash, will provide Frontiers of Pandora with an impressive-sounding free DLC designed to accommodate a wider range of player types and offer some more content for those of us who have long since finished the game’s prequel-focused main story.

New Game Plus And Third-Person Perspective, Coming This December

Creative Director Omar Bouali has revealed upcoming release entitled ‘3rd-Person Update’, which, besides doing exactly what it says on the tin, will also include a robust New Game Plus feature. Bouali notes in the update’s announcement video (see below) that New Game Plus and an optional third-person camera mode are “two of the most requested features from the community”, and while I can’t speak for the rest of you, I’m always a fiend for fun postgame content, so I suppose I was right there with the community on that front.

New Game Plus will allow players to maintain their skills and inventory when replaying Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’s story, but more importantly, it will add more challenging enemies, a new skill tree, and stronger equipment.

to accommodate a third-person perspective, the team at Massive Entertainment has, in Bouali’s own words, “reworked animations, audio, and camera systems to make sure it all feels just right.” While I’m notparticularlyintrigued by this, it’s certainly something that many fans have hoped to see. Besides, it always did feel a smidge odd that a big open-world game from Ubisoft didn’t have it -Assassin’s Creedisn’t exactly an unknown quantity over there.

If there’s a downside, it’s the length of time involved before ‘3rd-Person Update’ comes to Frontiers of Pandora. Since it’s all about that cross-promotional value, we’ve got to wait until December 5, which is kind of rough. Then again, there are so many games,of so many distinct varieties, hitting us hard and fast throughout 2025 that I’m not sure I’ll have the hours to spare for a revisit until at least next year.
