During its most recent shareholder meeting,Ubisoftconfirmed that a newGhost Recongame is in the works. The official confirmationfollows rumors of a new title within the Tom Clancy franchise that would take place during a fictional Naiman War, with elements similar toModern WarfareandReady or Not.

That’s all well and good, except there’s just one problem … it sounds like the game is going to be a live-service title.

When It Comes To A New Ghost Recon, The Monkey’s Paw Is Definitely Curling

As first shared by Insider Gaming, via, the company did outright confirm that the next Ghost Recon game would be a first-person shooter, ditching the third-person perspective that headlined the two most recent Ghost Recon games (Wildlands and Breakpoint).

That’s not all, though. In discussing the success of Rainbow Six Siege, particularly from a live-service standpoint, CEO Yves Guillemot said the following:

“Our objective is to also make strong progress in the growing market, generally speaking, by continuing to enhance our current experiences that we offer—and capitalizing on upcoming launches, such as The Division and Ghost Recon.”

In other words, there’s a good shot that when the next Ghost Recon game launches, it’ll have any of the typical live-service elements that other games in its genre also share, including battle passes, skins, weapon unlocks and so on.

For what it’s worth, Ghost Recon has become no stranger to those elements in the past,as Wildlands did have a crossover with The Predator for a limited time, among other additions over the years. Still, if you were hoping for a non-intrusive experience, it sounds like you’ll be out of luck.
