For what feels like forever,Transformersfans have been eagerly waiting forActivisionto re-license some of its older games, specifically High Moon Studios' Transformers War for Cybertronand Fall of Cybertron from back in theXbox 360days. Despitemultiple prevalent, and largely believable rumors, the games have yet to be re-released.
With that in mind, video game archivist Rohan Kar decided to take it upon themselves to not only re-release War for Cybertron, but also “remaster” it, adding a texture pool that turns the 2010 game into a 4K, 60fps modern feeling title.
Go figure, the game does look pretty darn good, and apparently there is a new intro that has fans feeling pretty nostalgic. It certainly more than makes up for the fact that Transformers fans have not been eating good when it comes to new games in the franchise.
Being A Transformers Fan Is Extremely Painful, At Least Recently
While there have been oodles of toys for collectors over the years, the same can’t be said for the game side of things. The duology of Fall and War for Cybertron has since been delisted, and so has Transformers Devastation.
Beyond that,in early January, Transformers Reactivate was canceled, according to a post from Splash Damage, anda gameplay leak following its shutdown only made fans feel worse. Elsewhere, concept art for a game that mish-mashed Michael Bay’s style with that of the cartoon was shared online in May. Finally, there was a rumored Vampire Survivors clone that we hadn’t heard about in a while.
In other words, we desperately need a new game starring our favorite Autobots and Decepticons. The War for Cybertron “remaster” simply takes away a bit of the sting.
