When aNintendo Directis upon us, you can bet that social media will be full of speculation on what games will be shown off. However, it sounds like even the developers of the games themselves don’t know what will make it until the day of the Direct, as there may be more last-minute changes than we expected.

This is according to Editor-in-Chief of The Game Business, Christopher Dring, who says that he was aware of three games that should have made it intothe latest Nintendo Direct, but didn’t. He says that he got his information from the developers of the games, so if his sources are accurate, then it sounds likeNintendoisn’t afraid to mess around with the running order right before the show.

Games Were Dropped From The Latest Nintendo Direct, It’s Claimed

Dring doesn’t tell us which games were swapped around, but it sounds like the devs were probably in for a bit of disappointment, since they were apparently very sure that their work would make the cut. Given that this was a third-party Direct, there’s no telling what these titles could have been.

This makes sense in an incredibly volitile industry, where games can be delayed or cancelled, and studios can face job losses and even closures. Recently enough,Marathon was delayed, likely meaning that Sony had to find something else to put in its latest State of Play, or trim down the runtime. This would be very true of the Partner Direct, since Nintendo isn’t overseeing the developement of these titles.

In any case, this gives us a brief look behind the curtain when it comes to the Nintendo Directs. All the major players have their showcases down to a formula now, but of course, they can’t account for every possibility.

With that said, many were disappointed with this latest Nintendo Direct. As soon as it ended, fans took to social media to complainabout the lack of big and exciting ports, speculating that many studios are playing catch-up with the Switch 2, rather than having something ready for its launch period. And of course, it’s only customary now forHollow Knight fans to go into mourningas another showcase passes without a Silksong trailer. At the very least, we know thatit will be playable at Gamescom this year.
