Earlier this year, Konami broke its silence regarding the mysteriousSilent Hill f, revealingit in full at a Silent Hill Transmission event. The first new Silent Hill game since 2012 will also be the first Silent Hill game to be set in Japan, and it’s being written by horror author, Ryukishi07.

In the time since then,we’ve seen the game get banned and unbanned in Australia, itsESRB rating disclose just how violent the game will beand thelengthy content warning that is being provided to players before interacting with the game. Oh, anda release date of October 25.

Ahead of that release, new gameplay from the title has been circulating online, and, well, let’s just say most fans don’t seem too excited by what’s been showcased.

Silent Souls f or Souls Hill f — Take Your Pick On A Cheeky Name

Taking to Reddit’s Silent Hill sub, fans were quick to share their thoughts on recent gameplay footage that showcases the main character, Hinako Shimizu, battling against some rather unsettling creatures. Interestingly enough, there’s a stamina meter, and weapons will also degrade over time.

“Combat looks really bad at (the) moment,“one user succinctly wrote. “Enemy design is really cool, but the combat looks terrible,“another user wrote. “Absolutely no reaction to hits, and a lock-on? Looks more like an RPG than a survival horror. Really hope they fix that.”

Given how close we are to release, barring a late delay, it seems like what you see is what you’ll get, including weapon degradation.

“I’d like to scour the in-game world and pick up all the details/memos, but if I’m burning through my decent weapons at every stop to do so, I’m eventually gonna stop exploring to conserve resources,“a user wrote, detailing a potential pitfall of the system.

In a separate thread, users detailed their disappointment with the dodge mechanics, with one user writing, “This combat looks so bad for this type of game.”

Perhaps the best explanation of things is this comment, where one user wrote, “I have a feeling SHf is about to be really divisive. After watching combat gameplay, it’s giving me a lot of flashbacks to Homecoming, which I personally liked, but lots of people didn’t.”

It seems like October can’t come soon enough, so fans can decide one way or the other.
