If you’ve been looking forward to experiencing the ever-present allure of Tamagotchi in a 3D space, thenTamagotchi Plazais the game for you! Bringing back the simple fun of the Nintendo DS version, Tamagotchi Plaza is a win for fans who have long hoped to get more console-gaming fun times out of the familiar band of “tchi”-surnamed friends.
Tamagotchi Plaza is a fairly straightforward video game, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t things worth bearing in mind from the moment you’re taken from Earth and sent to a planet filled with festival-prepping talking animals. Here’s a few tips to get you started!
Mind The Tchi
You can’t change the name you choose for your character once you’ve started the game, which isn’t exactly unusual for video games. Whatisdifferent is that, whatever you select, the suffix “-tchi” will be added at the endof it.
Tamagotchi Plaza does make somewhat clear, but I have seen some confusion over the matter. The name choice screen showsthe part where you enter your name, and it shows “-tchi” further to the right.
Just bear in mind that, whatever you choose, you’re stuck with those four letters at the end. My name is Quinton, and I decided to use that in-game, but if I hadn’t heeded this, I’d have been Quintontchi. Nothing wrong with that, but I don’t like it! So, I ran with Quintochi instead, thus entering “Quinto” rather than “Quinton”.
You Didn’t Miss A Tutorial Somewhere
The core of Tamagotchi Plaza’s gameplay loop is found in itsminigames, with ten on the Switch version, and 13 on Switch 2.Engaging in the minigames on a routine basis is what you’ll be spending most of your time doing, and you’ll eventually get quite good at them all.
At first, however, they can all seem mindboggling. Rightly so -there are seldom any tutorials to be found. You didn’t miss anything, the game just tosses you straight in.Do your best to deduce what’s being asked of you, but don’t stress over itin the slightest, because…
Failure Is Your Friend
Or, at least, it should be.The odds are slim that you will master every minigame right off the bat, not so much because they’re overly complicated affairs, but because - again - you’ll lack tutorials. (I found thetea shopminigame especially befuddling at first, but your mileage may vary.)
Just let it happen, honestly. You won’t get a game over or anything silly like that. You’ll just getone star, or even zero, on thethree-star max rating systemincorporated into most Tamagotchi Plaza minigames. It’s fine, I promise! You’ll get there soon.
Even if you fail dozens of timesbefore getting the full hang of something, your shops won’t lose reputation points, they just won’t gain any until you’re performing better. Not the end of the world.
Scroll Right, Save A Life
I mentioned the tea shop being a real headache for me the first few times I attempted it. Well, a big part of the reason why was thatI failed to realize that there were far more options to choose for the table placement in that minigame simply by repeatedly pressing the right analog button to view further selections.
Indeed, the tea shop minigame is hardly alone in this regard. Several of Tamagotchi Plaza’s minigames havequite a few items you can choosethat you won’t see unless youscroll further to the right, which will reveal additional things on the list.
As soon as I realized this, I started doing better, because, well, you know - I suddenly had the tools at my disposal which the game anticipated I would want to utilize.
We’ll keep adding tips as we play more of Tamagotchi Plaza, but I wanted to get these early suggestions out ASAP for all you fellow fresh plaza adventurers!
