Edge of Eternities isMagic: The Gathering’sfirst foray into the space opera genre, utilizing various science fiction themes. Coming off of the Final Fantasy set, which had nearly 100 commanders, Edge of Eternities' legendary count is significantly lower, with less than 20 to choose from (which is one of the lowest commander counts in recent years).

Despite the lower number of commanders in Edge of Eternities, the ones that are there are very powerful. Nearly every commander in the set is great in the Commander format, although some still stand above the others as the best commanders in Edge of Eternities.

9Alpharael, Stonechosen

Quick, Easy Burn

Alpharael, Stonechosenis a unique mono-black commanderthat encourages you to constantly have nonland permanents leaving the battlefield. Alpharael is a unique burn deck with an effect that is trivial to trigger, only needing to attack if void is active.

Its ward gives Alpharael built-in protection that discourages your opponents from targeting it. The one downside of Alpharael has a high casting cost combined with only decent stats. However, if you build your deck like a control deck, you’ll be able to attack freely with Alpharael to guarantee its effect triggers every turn.

MTG Haliya, Guided by Light card with the art in the background.

8Haliya, Guided By Light

Drawing Life

As with many mono-white commanders, Haliya, Guided By Lightfalls under the lifegain category. However, what makes it much more interesting is that it also interacts with artifacts, and turns lifegain into card draw (something white usually struggles with).

While you can’t pay the warp cost from the command zone, if Haliya ever gets bounced by to the hand, you can use it. Haliya can gain a ton of life, especially with how many free and cheap artifacts there are available in mono-white colors.

MTG Dyadrine, Synthesis Amalgam card with the art in the background.

7Dyadrine, Synthesis Amalgam

Robots For Counters

Unlike most +1/+1 counter decks that only do it to boost power, Dyadrine, Synthesis Amalgam instead uses these counters for card advantage and a way to get more creatures onto the battlefield. It can come down with a ton of counters on it, or just be cast without anything in X if you have other ways to get counters.

Selesnya (green/white) is the best color combination for counter decks, as all the best support cards are in that color. Dyadrine has a token subtheme, of which the color combination also excels at, making Dyadrine a great commander for those themes.

MTG Mm’menon, Uthros Exile card with the art in the background.

6Mm’menon, Uthros Exile

Growing Artifacts

Mm’menon, Uthros Exile is a pretty basic artifact commander. It doesn’t have any flashy effect, but it does have a solid one with good stats to make for a great Voltron commander. Voltron decks want to load up a ton of Equipment and Auras on one creature, using them as your sole attacker.

Mm’menon is afantastic Voltron commander, as by playing Equipment, you grow Mm’menon with counters on top of the stat boosts that come from the Equipment. It also has flying, giving some baseline evasiveness to make it easier to get in for damage in combat.

MTG Ragost, Deft Gastronaut card with the art in the background.

5Ragost, Deft Gastronaut

A Lobster Fried This Rice?

The funniest card in Edge of Eternities is also a pretty great commander. Ragost, Deft Gastronautis all about Food tokens, turning all artifacts you control into Food that you can turn into burn damage to your opponents.

Ragost is all about cooking up artifacts to be sacrificed while cooking your opponents' life totals down to zero. There is no shortage of artifacts that want to be sacrificed, making for some great synergy that allows Ragost to deal a ton of damage through multiple turn cycles.

Xu-Ifit, Osteoharmonist card with the art in the background.

4Xu-Ifit, Osteoharmonist

Vanilla Skeletons

Xu-Ifit, Osteoharmonist is a very unique reanimation commander, as the creatures it brings back from the graveyard come back as vanilla creatures (creatures with no abilities). While this is normally a downside, there are creatures with harmful effects that have good statlines, and Xu-Ifit allows you to get the best of both worlds.

A Xu-Ifit Commander deck is much more about cheating creatures with good stats out, as opposed to creatures with good effects. Even though it’s locked into mono-black colors, black is the primary reanimation color, giving Xu-Ifit a ton of reanimation support.

MTG Tannuk, Steadfast Second card with the art in the background.

3Tannuk, Steadfast Second

Take It To Warp Speed

Tannuk, Steadfast Second can be best described as a “Sneak Attack” commander. This takes inspiration from the card Sneak Attack, which allows you to put a creature onto the battlefield with haste for an alternate cost (usually used to cast large spells at a steep discount).

Tannuk can put any artifact or creature onto the battlefield from your hand for just three mana, and this can be done more than once a turn. Unlike Sneak Attack, the card is exiled and can be cast for its normal casting cost as opposed to being sacrificed. This makes Tannuk great for cheating out big permanents early.

Mm’menon, the Right Hand card with the art in the background.

2Mm’menon, The Right Hand

Artifacts For Artifacts

Mm’menon gets two separate cards in Edge of Eternities, both of which are excellent. Despite being locked into mono-blue, Mm’menon, the Right Hand is the better of the two, turning all your artifacts into mana rocks that can be used to cast spells from anywhere but your hand.

The strength of Mm’menon, the Right Hand comes from how explosive it can be. If youbuild your deck with exclusively artifacts, each one you play provides you with a ton of extra mana to use on your next turn. Mono-blue is a surprisingly good color for artifacts, making Mm’menon even stronger.

MTG Infinite Guideline Station card with the art in the background.

1Infinite Guideline Station

WUBRG Spacecraft

Infinite Guideline Station is a fantastic five-color commander, with its effects improving the more multicolored permanents you have. You don’t want any mono-colored cards in it, as you want to make the most out of Infinite Guideline Station.

If you have just six multicolored permanents the turn it enters, you’ll create enough Robot tokensto station it to 12 charge counterson your next turn to immediately turn it “on.” 7/15 is a fantastic stat line, and since Infinite Guideline Station has flying as well, you can have some very quick games with how much card draw it also provides.
