Special-edition consoles aren’t a particularly new thing, but we’re starting to see more and more of them as companies look for ways to entice buyers with the promise of a unique collector’s item. Consoles kitted out for a fan-favorite franchise are common, but sometimes non-gaming brands will collaborate to make an unexpected product that gets attention and sales.

Not every limited edition becomes a high-ticket item, but a few can sell for thousands after their run ends, usually due to a combination of rarity and fan excitement. These are the most valuable console variants we could find - have you ever encountered one in person?

Considering thatHalois still pretty universally synonymous with the Xbox brand, it’s no surprise that the fifth installment in the legendary shooter franchise came with its own limited-edition console. The Halo 5 edition of the Xbox One had a stylish two-color case with a matching chrome controller, and also came packed in with goodies likein-universe documentsand a Guardian figure.

It’s still comparatively new by the standards of some other collectibles, but as time goes on it could potentially see its value rise, especially when it comes to sealed units.

In its console days,Segahad an impressive lineup of sports titles. They even had their own brand, Sega Sports, which launched in 1993 and partnered with all four major American sports leagues to produce games. The Sega Sports edition of the Dreamcast indicated that they had no intention of slowing down, but the console’s disappointing sales ultimately took Sega out of the console race for good.

The Sega Sports Dreamcast came inall black, as opposed to the standard version’s white, and had the Sega Sports logo on the disc lid. It also came bundled withNFL2K and NBA2K, perfect for couch gaming with the console’s four controller ports.

Nowadays, there are countless games in the labyrinthineKingdom Heartschronology, but the release of Chain Of Memories marked only the second game in the then-nascent franchise. The GBA title served as a bridge between the original game and the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 2, introducing key characters like Namine and the members of Organization XIII.

Fans in Europe who were already all-in on the unlikely crossover between Disney and Final Fantasy could show their love for the series by getting it packed in with alimited-edition Game Boy Advance SP.The case had the series logo etched into it in Heartless script, and came in either silver or black.

The Kingdom Hearts GBA’s relative scarcity at launch has made it all the rarer now, and even a loose unit can fetch a few hundred dollars as long as it works and is in good condition.

It hasn’t even been a year, and the 30th Anniversary Edition of the PS5 Pro isalready one of the highest-priced consoles for collectors. As you probably recall, its launch back in November was plagued bypreorder woes and scalpers, the latter of whom seem to be laughing their way to the bank.

If you were one of the lucky buyers who actually got your hands on this tribute to PlayStation, treasure it and keep it in the best condition you may. You might even want to consider getting it graded if it’s still sealed.

For a while,Fortnitewas the biggest game on the planet, so it was only natural that there would be a limited-edition console to capitalize on the massive battle royale. Even if you aren’t a Fortnite fan, this special edition of the Xbox One S is worth considering just for its appearance.

The console’s gorgeous purple gradient and matching controller make it stand out among the standard white, black, and gray designs of other machines. Of course, considering how much a sealed unit sells for, you’ll definitely want to go for an open copy if you’re buying for the aesthetics.

A crossover between Xbox and a luxury brand like Porsche might seem like a cash grab at first glance, but it actually makes sense; racing franchises likeForzawork closely with car manufacturers to showcase their vehicles and simulate them as accurately as possible, so there’s an existing relationship between the two brands.

For Porsche’s 75th anniversary, Xbox held a sweepstakes that let players in Europe enter to win one of six Series X console designs based on iconic cars. Thus far, very few have actually hit the market, as collectors seem to have opted to keep them rather than sell them.

The style based on the1971 Pink Pighas fetched a few thousand dollars, and it’s possible that as other variants start to move there will be a market for each individual design, but it’s too early to tell just yet.

Code: Veronicawasn’t just the only Resident Evil game for the Dreamcast; it was a high point of the series, despite being a spinoff, and for some fans the reason to get the console in the first place. In Japan, its release was celebrated with alimited-edition consolethat boasted atranslucent red case.

The red “Biohazard Dreamcast,” featuring Clair on the box, only produced 1800 units, and then only in Japan, making it a very rare find. Truly lucky collectors instead got their hands on the purpleSTARS version,of which only 200 were made. The prices above are for theClaire version; the STARS version, if you can find one, would need to be appraised on an individual basis due to its extreme rarity.

Another Japan-exclusive Dreamcast variant, this extremely rare console promoted the system’s strangest title,Seaman.A voice-controlled virtual pet simulator narrated by the late Leonard Nimoy, Seaman was more of an experience than a game.

The Skeleton Edition not only includeda complete Dreamcast setupplus the game and the necessary microphone for talking to your Seamen, but the console, controller, and VMU had a uniqueclear translucent case. Given the game’s niche appeal, it’s no wonder that a complete box set is so hard to find more than two decades on.
