Let’s face it, every once in a while, you need a vacation, even if you’re an adventurer in the world ofDungeons & Dragons. Adventuring parties must take time off every once in a while. But regardless, the world of the Forgotten Realms and beyond is full of fun locales to vacation.
But which spots are the best for an intrepid band of heroes to go to, or just for regular people like us to visit? If you’re looking for imaginary vacation spots for your next break, look no further than this list of the top DND locations we’d like to visit IRL.
Details
A bustling, sprawling metropolis
Waterdeep is one of the most famous cities in the entirety of the Dungeons & Dragons universe. While there are so many different cities to choose from, including the famous Baldur’s Gate, Waterdeep takes the cake for us for a couple of very important reasons.
First off, the city features the iconic Yawning Portal, which is basically the most famous tavern in all of Dungeons & Dragons. Second, the city features some of the most important guilds in the DND universe, including the Harpers, and more. Minor points dinged for the fact that, at the end of the day, you probably really only want to visitduring the spring or summer, as Waterdavian winters can be brutal.
A realm-hopping portal city
Sigil, otherwise known as the city of doors, is a hub for extraplanar travel in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. Not only can you visit Sigil itself and have a great time, but you could also use it as a hopping off point for any number of destinations throughout the DND multiverse.
The city itself is also bustling and full of interesting locations, including some of the best taverns on offer in the multiverse. You will want to watch your step here, though, if you’re adventuring, unless you plan on getting jailed by the servants of the Lady of Pain, who punishes anyone who questions her will.
A whimsical mirror plane
Though the Feywildmirrors the Material Plane in many ways, there’s a ton of unique locations and fun things to discover within the Feywild (some of these specific locations even appear later on this list). However, the best part of vacationing in the Feywild would undoubtedly be the natural beauty.
Just imagine taking a backpacking journey through the Feywild? This one is definitely better suited for outdoorsy types, but if you enjoy a good hike, you’d probably enjoy the impossibly tall and grand mountains of the Fey realm, as well as the natural creatures you may find along your way.
A robust casino
The Afterlife Casino might just be the Dungeons & Dragons equivalent of Las Vegas. However, this casino has a cool twist in its design. The entire casino is built into a natural cavern, with ceilings fifty feet tall, and magical dancing lights illuminating the interior.
If you’re looking for an exotic and fun locale to burn through those extra gold pieces in your wallet, the Afterlife Casino would be the way to go. Plus, there are plenty of chances to win big, and maybe even leave a bit richer than you were before.
Nexus of culture and trade
The Radiant Citadel is another wonderfully magical city, just like Baldur’s Gate and Waterdeep. However, unlike these other two cities, the Radiant Citadel is a unique mix of 27 different cultures and civilizations. The entire city also floats in the sky and is highly luminous.
Plus, the Radiant Citadel is a bastion of arts and culture in the Dungeons & Dragons universe. I personally love to soak up the culture of a place when I travel, and the Radiant Citadel is full of culture, arts, and high society in a way few other DND cities are.
A fantastical, fey carnival
The Witchlight carnival is a moving carnival with multi-colored tents and caravans home to dozens of fantastical fey beings, who have come from the Fey Realm to share their delights with the Material Plane. Like any carnival, there are tons of different attractions that visitors can partake in.
There’s a fey carousel, a ride that allows visitors to float over the carnival in bubbles, and of course, a big top tent. The carnival also has a ton of different events, and allows passage into the Feywild itself, so this one’s really a two-for-one in terms of vacation spots.
A magnificent gala
Paliset Hall is technically a location within the Feywild, but it’s unique enough to get its own spot on the list. In the sourcebook Keys from the Golden Vault, players are tasked to travel to this location to break in and steal priceless treasure. However, for the purposes of this list, we’re just talking about getting to visit this magnificent palace and attend its annual winter solstice party.
The palace is beautifully situated between snow-capped mountains in the Fey realm and is quite picturesque overall. Plus, the palace’s owner, Zorhanna Adulare, hosts a wonderful winter gala around the time of the solstice. We can’t even imagine how fun it would be to party it up in the Dungeons & Dragons universe, let alone in the Feywild.
Seat of the Astral Elves in Wildspace
Xaryxispace, and by extension, its capital city, the Imperial Citadel, is the home of the Astral Elves in Wildspace. The Citadel itself is a massive, beautiful city that’s laid out like a giant butterfly. However, beyond just the Imperial Citadel, there are multiple planets in this system that would be fascinating to explore.
Of course, Wildspace is a dangerous place, but planets like Xaryndar, which feature an abundance of astral flora and fauna, or even Rivus, which is beautiful in its rocky desolation, make it all worth it. Plus, simply getting to travel the Astral Seain a Spelljammerwould make this vacation totally worth it.
