Pokemon fans love to speculate about what’s next for their favorite pocket monsters. We’ve seen hundreds of new Pokemon introduced and old classics get new forms, evolutions, and regional variants. From Gigantamax forms that turn a Pokemon into a titan to Mega Evolutions that grant them incredible power, it seems like everyone is getting an upgrade.
Yet, among the original 151, a surprising number of classics have been left behind. While they might be overlooked for now, the potential for them to get a new look is as exciting as ever, and I’ve brewed up some thoughts on what I’d like to see for every left-behind family.
Fearow
Poor Fearow, a classic Flying-type that’s been outclassed for generations. It’s a powerful bird known for its endurance, but it just can’t keep up with the likes of Staraptor and Corviknight.
A Gigantamax form would be a perfect way to give it a comeback. Imagine a colossal Fearow with winds so powerful that it can stir up a hurricane.
Arbok
Arbok is a cool Pokemon with an intimidating hood, but it’s never really been a top-tier Poison-type. A new regional form could shake things up; imagine a desert Arbok!
It could be a Ground/Poison type with sand-colored scales, and the patterns on its hood would be designed to blend into the arid landscape.
Nidoking & Nidoqueen
These two aretheKing and Queen of the Pokemon world, known for their powerful attacks and defensive prowess. They feel like they’re just one step away from a major upgrade.
An alternate evolution for both, perhaps found by using a special new stone, could give them a Dragon/Ground typing, turning them into a true pair of monarchs.
Clefable
This reclusive Fairy-type has a mystical charm, and its shyness is part of its appeal. I’m imagining a Mega Evolution that transforms Clefable into a celestial being, with its small wings becoming a shimmering, starry cape.
With a Psychic/Fairy typing, it could command cosmic power and use its hypnotic charm to bewitch its foes. Admit it, it would work so well for Clefable.
Wigglytuff
Wigglytuff is known for its cute look and ability to inflate. It could use a regional variant to change up its persona. An Ice/Fairy version, with fur that’s always covered in frost and a personality that’s a bit more aloof, could be a cool twist.
Alternatively, a Gigantamax form could be a huge, fluffy ball of snow and ice. The possibilities are endless with a canvas as unremarkable as Wigglytuff.
Parasect
Parasect is a bit of a tragic Pokemon, a Bug/Grass type whose true identity is the mushroom that controls it. A new evolution could lean into this macabre backstory.
What if the mushroom finally consumes the bug entirely, creating a Ghost/Grass type? It could be a floating, sinister fungal being, with the remains of the bug as a spectral shell.
Venomoth
Venomoth is, surprisingly, a moth Pokemon known for its poisonous dust. A Mega Evolution would be the perfect way to transform it, like what happened to Butterfree.
It could be a Bug/Psychic type with hypnotic, glowing eyes on its wings to amp up the intimidation (which could be its new ability!).
Golduck
Golduck has been crying out for a true representation of its psychic powers since its inception. How many of us were tricked by the anime into thinking it already had Psychic typing?
A new evolution would inevitably give it the typing it’s always deserved. I’m imagining its forehead gem growing into a horn of some sort and emitting a powerful aura, making it a master of both water and mind.
Victreebel
This flytrap Pokemon is a carnivorous plant that devours its prey, which is already such a cool concept.
A Gigantamax form would be the perfect way tohighlight its predatory nature. Imagine a gigantic, towering pitcher plant, with its mouth lined with sharp, acid-tipped tendrils. Alternatively, treat it like Vileplume and give it a totally different branching evolution!
Tentacruel
Tentacruel is a staple of so many games - you’realwaysrunning into Tentacool in oceans. A Mega Evolution could make it even more formidable.
Its body could become a glowing, ethereal orb, and its eighty tentacles would multiply and grow, forming a vast, venomous net. Its new form would be a powerful special wall, delivering devastating stings with its tentacles while taking basically no damage from enemies.
