After one of the busiest weeks in gaming(which is saying somethingin the year that GTA 6 got delayed), Xbox just rounded off the tidal wave of news with its Xbox Games Showcase,which featured a ton of announcements. While most of the reveals were great as long as you weren’thoping for something concrete on Hollow Knight: Silksong, there was also some bad news.
During the showcase,Xbox confirmed release dates for several of its upcoming games, includingNinja Gaiden 4and The Outer Worlds 2, with the latter being a big focus of its lineup. Those release dates mean that pre-orders for both games are now live, which has revealed a sad but unsurprising fact about The Outer Worlds 2.

As confirmed by the game’s Steam page now that pre-orders are open, The Outer Worlds 2 is going to be Xbox’s first ever $80 release, which is quite surprising considering its generally smaller scope and niche vibes compared to other games. That being said, we did know this was coming at some point, so we can’t be too shocked.
A few months ago,Xbox announced that it was going to be raising the prices of pretty much everything it releases, from consoles and hardware to games and accessories. That being said, The Outer Worlds 2 seems like a strange place to start the trend as, despite being made by Obsidian,it doesn’t quite have the reach of something like Mario Kart World.
To make matters even weirder,Ninja Gaiden 4 isn’t going to cost $80, as confirmed by its Steam page.
Sadly, it seems like the eye-watering $80 price tag is something we’re just going to have to get used to going forward as, if Xbox is going to do it with The Outer Worlds 2, it’s probably thinking of that for all of its major releases.At least this one is going to be on Game Pass, which I can only imagine is how most are going to end up playing it.
