ThePokemon TCGtakes a very different approach to Pokemon types than the mainline series, withtypes like Metal, Lightning, and Darkness only present on the TCG side. However, the rarest type in the Pokemon TCG is one you’re probably familiar with: the Fairy type.

Fairy-type Pokemon were a late addition to the Pokemon games, as they debuted in 2013’s Pokemon X and Y in the Sixth Generation. However, while they persist in the games, Fairy-type Pokemon cards only had a brief run in existence, and have since been discontinued as of 2020, lasting about seven years. However, there was plenty of time to create some very expensive cards.

The Unbroken Bonds Gardevoir & Sylveon GX Rainbow Secret Rare from the Pokemon TCG.

Cards are ordered according to theirTCGplayermarket price. Any cards without a market price are not included.

8Gardevoir & Sylveon GX: Unbroken Bonds (Secret Rare) – $87.15

Visuals Are Key

Despite taking one of the top spots as a valuable Fairy-type Pokemon card, this Gardevoir & Sylveon GX isn’t even themost expensive card with that name in Unbroken Bonds, leaving the door open for an even more valuable version.

This card bears the iconic Rainbow Secret Rare color palette typical of cards like those from the Sun & Moon era, which featured this style as its premier gimmick.

The Lost Thunder Mimikyu GX Secret Rare from the Pokemon TCG.

Unfortunately, the original color palettes are typically more visually clear and thus more appealing than versions like this.

7Mimikyu GX: Lost Thunder (Secret Rare) – $89.48

A Fragile Facade

The Mimikyu GX from Lost Thunder follows it up with another example of what Rainbow Secret Rares look like on different Pokemon. Ironically, while many Pokemon suffer from the vibrant color palette, Mimikyu benefits from it since its usual design features a simple color palette with only a few colors.

The fewer colors and less intricate your design, the more likely it is that a Rainbow Secret Rare color palette will enhance a Pokemon, rather than detract from it. Simple designs like Mimikyu’s are perfect candidates for the more complex color scheme.

The Radiant Collection Sylveon EX from the Pokemon TCG.

6Sylveon EX: Generations Radiant Collection (Full Art) – $114.46

Light & Bright

This Sylveon EX began 2025 on a roll and only kept climbing up from there, as several EX cards from 2016 and earlier started to receive more attention thanks to the re-release of Mega Evolution Pokemon.

However, while many cards received boosts in value thanks to the return of Mega Evolutions,Eeveelutions are consistently among the top performers among valuable cards.Expect to see this card continue creeping up the charts, given how bright and beautiful the colors are on this full art.

The Sylveon GX Rainbow Secret Rare from the Pokemon TCG.

5Sylveon GX: Guardians Rising (Secret Rare) – $115.30

Rolling In Rainbows

Sylveon GX grabs the spotlight for an impressive takeover of the best Fairy-type Pokemon cards you can find, as this Fairy-type Eeveelution has all the makings of a long-term favorite. Again, the Secret Rare situation typically complicates the value, but if there’s a Pokemon who can make it work, it’s Sylveon.

This Fairy-type Pokemon won’t be dropping any time soon, and even if this card falters, there are other incredibly bright and valuable Sylveon cards still to come that will carry the torch.

The Hidden Fates Sylveon GX from the Pokemon TCG.

4Sylveon GX: Hidden Fates Shiny Vault (Shiny Holo Rare) – $117.27

A Fresh Look

Speaking ofSylveon and its incredibly expensive roster of cards, there’s another Sylveon GX version that features this Pokemon’s blue shiny palette in all its glory. The bubblegum or cotton candy-themed colors make this card stand out from the solid white background, and make Sylveon the star.

Even with the white background and Sylveon’s mostly white color palette, the use of shading and shadows to slightly differentiate Sylveon’s off-white color makes this card even more beautiful the longer you look at it.

The Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff GX promo from the Pokemon TCG.

3Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff GX: Alternate Art Promos (Promo) – $162.35

A Full Party

Promo cards can feature some of the most beautiful and unusual designs, as they’re usually standalone cards that don’t have to adhere to a specific style or set theme. This Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff GX might just be the perfect example of the incredible results you may see when an artist has fun realizing their vision.

All three of the Pokemon featured get an equal slice of the spotlight, and the variety of Poke Balls and berries featured in the background provides the perfect symphony of cute details that make this card so perfectly adorable.

The Dream League Clefairy from the Pokemon TCG.

2Clefairy (Dream League): Sun & Moon Promos (Promo) – $356.00

Alola’s Favorite Friends

Clefairy is one of the most iconic Fairy-type Pokemon and spearheaded the change from Normal-type when Fairy was introduced as a new type in Generation Six. Lillie and Clefairy are probably the most iconic Fairy-type duo in the series, and they appear together in modern sets like Journey Together.

The Pokemon Company knows they have a winning combination on their hands, so you should expect to see plenty more of this duo. Sadly, there won’t be any more versions of them championing the Fairy typing, so this is a rare collector’s item that you’ll struggle to find as time goes on.

Atsuko Nishida’s Gardevoir and Sylveon GX Pokemon TCG card art.

1Gardevoir & Sylveon GX: Unbroken Bonds (Alternate Full Art) – $477.13

Fairy Perfection

Gardevoir and Sylveon’s stunning Alternate Art from Unbroken Bonds snatches the crown away from the competition, reaching an impressive value that eclipses the previous card by over $100.This is one of Gardevoir’s most valuable cards, and the artwork supports the hefty price.

You won’t find a simple, sweet moment between Gardevoir and Sylveon anywhere else, as they enjoy a beautiful day in a flower-dotted field. This card deserves its flowers as the best Fairy-type card ever and one of themost expensive cards from the Sun & Moon era.
