Late last year, it was confirmed thatMass Effectisgetting a TV adaptationover atAmazon. Details are scarce, as we have no idea what story it will follow or when it will be with us, but it’s in the works. And as it happens, the crew behind it have some experience with video game adaptations.

As spotted by fans, there’s actually a detail about the show that we all missed when it was announced last November - it has the same team as theFalloutshow. That excludes writers, so the script is in different hands, but otherwise, it looks like Amazon wanted to stick to what works and has apparently kept the production team much the same.

Some People From The Fallout Team Are Working On The Mass Effect Show

Screenwriter Daniel Casey mentioned this detail in an Instagram post, which many Mass Effect fans are only spotting now.

“Doing this right is and has been top priority for nearly two years now,” Casey wrote back in November 2024. “We have a great pilot script and series outline, the team that Amazon has in place (same team as #fallout including the fantastic @scottfarris) is incredible.”

The name mentioned by Casey there is Scott Farris, who is listed on LinkedIn as a senior television executive and creative strategist at Amazon. This suggests that some higher-ups from the production team of Fallout are also on Mass Effect, which makes sense, since Fallout was mostly well-received by fans and critics.

The Fallout show made the decision not to adapt any of the games, insteadtelling a unique story with new characters. A plot synopsis that was spotted online suggested thatMass Effect would instead directly adapt the story of the original trilogy, but there is a good chance that this was just put there as a placeholder.

In fact, there are likely a lot of fans who arehopingit’s a placeholder. If the show is just a retelling of the games, then that means giving us a Commander Shepard who’s completely different from the one most of us have in our heads, since they are fully customizable in the games. It also means making ‘canon’ choices for the show, when a huge selling point of Mass Effect is the ability to make your own decisions and feel the impact of them later on. Indeed, they would not be easy games to adapt, so it’s very possible that the show will take the Fallout route.
