It is officially summer, which meansblockbuster movies, massivegame releases, and, uh, themed skins inMarvel Rivals. Because nothing quite says “Welcome to Summer” like seeingThe Punisher wearing a speedo that has a Punisher skull logo covering up his, um, little punisher.
While the arrival of the skins has caused quite a stir in the Rivals community, specifically due to its pricing strategy, there’s another stir ongoing, and it has everything to do with theOne Pieceanime and manga.
NetEase Games Are Truly Some Massive One Piece Fans, It Seems
To start, trusty Marvel Rivals insider Miller Ross took to social media to reveal another part of the summer-themed skins coming to the live-service game, which will be released in early August. The Human Torch is set to be one of those skins, and his concept art has him looking just like the infamous One Piece villain, Donquixote Doflamingo.
Seriously, the resemblance is uncanny. Johnny Storm is rocking the same white glasses that Doffy does, plus he has somewhat of a similar hairstyle to go along with the open shirt.
Naturally, it didn’t take long for One Piece fans to realize the uncanny resemblance. In the Rivals subreddit, many shared their excitement for the upcoming skin while also noting the intentional nature of the reference.
“Bro looks like he’s ready to conquer Dressrosa,“one user wrote in response.
Go figure this isn’t the first time that One Piece has been referenced in Marvel Rivals. Back in December, when winter-themed elements were showcased, a snowman wearing a top hat and antlers was part of things, which many took as a Chopper reference.
Now, if only the powers that be recognize how much One Piece love there is and get right to making a proper triple-A title.
