Summary

The Legend of Zelda moviehas been delayed and will now premiere on July 19, 2025. This is just over a month after its planned premiere date, with Shigeru Miyamoto saying that the additional few weeks are needed to make sure the film is “as good as it can be”.

Miyamoto does not get into the specifics, outside of saying that the date has been changed “for production reasons”. Still, this is close enough to itsinitial premiere date of July 20, 2025, that there’s no reason to worry about production just yet. In fact, the film appears tostill be in the casting process.

The Zelda Movie Has Been Delayed To July 30, 2025

While the news that we’re in for a slightly longer wait than expected is a bit disappointing, Zelda fans have every reason to be excited right now. It wasrecently reported that Hunter Schafer is being eyed for Princess Zelda right now, after fans have long suggested that she would be perfect for the role. In fact, back in 2022, Schafer said she was “honoured” that fans wanted her to play Zelda, so the dream could finally be realised.

This delay gives the Zelda movie some space fromanother major video game film, Sonic the Hedgehog 4. While Zelda is certainly enough of a pull to make a ridiculous amount of money regardless of the competition, the Sonic films also bring in a huge audience, so much so thatit is now a billion-dollar franchise. So, it makes sense to have this break between the films, giving them both a chance to shine on their own - and making early 2027 slightly more affordable for gamers.

In any case, we’re still far away from having anything to see from the Zelda movie. Right now, we can only sit back and wait for the cast to be revealed.
