Summary
It’s pretty evident now that the HBO show, while sticking to the main plot, is changing quite a few things fromThe Last of Usvideo game. Things like Tommy leaving for Seattle before Ellie and Dina, Isaac showing up much earlier, and even the entire battle of Jackson are all deviations from the plot of the game.
While fans have made peace with the show being different, there are still those that are split on Bella Ramsey’s portrayal of Ellie, especiallyafter episode two did viewers' (and Joel’s) heads in. However, now thatPedro Pascal is gone, it seems fans have found a new favourite – Ellie’s partner in vengeance, Dina.
The Last Of Us Fans Love Isabela Merced’s Dina
In the absence of Joel, Dina has stepped in to be the voice of reason, and preparedness, for Ellie. Isabela Merced has made the role her own, and even die hard fans of the games have started to appreciate her performance. We saw a range of emotions from her in the latest episode, which cemented her as everybody’s new favourite character.
“Isabela has nailed Dina as a character, she has her charm, her sassiness and can show so many emotions just by her expressions,” said a post by Faxtel on Reddit. “I’ve accepted that HBO’s Ellie will completely differ from game Ellie and I’m not enjoying it in the slightest. I genuinely hope Dina remains in the party on day 2 cause I can’t possibly see Bella managing the entire episode on her own.”
“She does feel like the heart of the show but I think that is the point,” said one comment. “Great actress as well.” It seems fans are okay with the show deviating from the game’s plot, as long as they get to see more of Dina.
“While I don’t dislike Ramsey in the role, let’s just say I’m so glad they are not going the game route and leaving Dina in the theater for day 2 and 3 while Ellie goes on her killing spree on her own,” said another viewer.
Those who haven’t played the game must be dreading what may befall her in future episodes, since she’s clearly the new favourite. Doubly so after she revealed her big secret.
