The Last of Usco-creator Neil Druckmann has announced that he’s stepping away from HBO’s adaptation so that he can focus onNaughty DogandIntergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
Despite its first season being one of the best gaming adaptations out there,it’s fair to say that Season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us was a pretty big disappointment. Adapting such acontroversial and complicated gamewas always going to be difficult,but HBO’s attempt missed the mark in a number of ways.
Even though a lot of viewers andfans of the series weren’t happy with The Last of Us' second season, the show has been such amonumental hit that it was always going to get a third season. Interestingly, though, it’s been revealed that The Last of Us co-creator and Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann isn’t going to be involved in the show’s future.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Is Now His Main Focus
Over on Naughty Dog’s official Instagram page, a statement was shared that confirmed Druckmann is no longer going to work on HBO’s The Last of Us. Druckmann states that it was a “difficult decision” that was made so thathe can focus entirely on Naughty Dog’s future projects.
Druckmann notes that he decided to step away from HBO’s The Last of Us before any “meaningful work” had started on its upcoming third season, and that he’ll now focus on writing and directing Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.While it’s not mentioned in the statement, we also know that Naughty Dog is working on another game, which Druckmann will likely be focusing on as well.

For those that don’t know, Druckmann had quite a lot of involvement in the first two seasons of HBO’s The Last of Us.The Last of Us co-creator acted as an executive producer, writer, and even a director for the show, making it quite a big shock that he’s departing before The Last of Us Part 2’s adaptation has been completed.
