The Graveyard biome inThe King Is Watchingisn’t just filled with new enemies and bosses to challenge your royal armies. It also lets you seek out Cemetery Relics, which you can exchange for extra troops, upgrades, and goods that aren’t available in the Village. It’s more to manage, but well worth the extra effort.
If you’re taking your first step into the Graveyard, it’s a good idea to learn what you can do with Relics so that you can plan ahead. You can make your tried-and-true strategies better, or unleash the power of the dead!
How To Get Relics
The main way to get Relics is torecruit Ruin Scoutsto retrieve them from the dig sites around the battlefield. Similarly to the basic Peasant Hut, you gettwo blueprints for Ruin Scout buildingsat the start of each run in the Graveyard, letting you recruit a total of four Scouts. That’s all you get, though, sodon’t sell the blueprints.
Once trained, Ruin Scouts will wait around until youselect one of the four ruins(one at each corner of the battlefield) for them to excavate. You can change which ruin you want to work on at any time, or click the one that’s currently being explored to send the Scouts back to wait by the castle walls, butthe Ruin Scouts take time to travel to and from their destinations, to say nothing of the actual work time.
Your entire group of Ruin Scouts travel and work together - you can’t split them up between dig sites. The more of them are working, the faster an excavation will go.
Each ruin has different rewards available, typically aSpell, Artifact, or Relics. you may sometimes get a Building Upgrade as well. Once a ruin has been excavated, it will respawn after some time; it’s a good idea to send your Scouts to a different dig site in the meantime.
Important Things To Know About Ruin Scouts
If your Scouts are at one of the right-hand ruins, recall them or move them to a left ruinwhen a new wave is about to start. It’s not as efficient, but it keeps them from dying. you’re able to always send them back to keep digging once the danger has passed. The right-hand ruins havelarger Relic rewardsthan the left-hand.
How To Spend Relics
Relics can be spent at theCemetery Trader, who arriveseach time you get a new Prophecy. She works similarly to the Wandering Trader, but shedoesn’t accept Denarii- only Relics.
Interestingly, the game counts Relics as resources - probably because you can recruit Mummies with them (see below). This means that any time you get an award of “every resource” while in the Graveyard, that includes Relics!
The Cemetery Trader hasthree rows of offerings, two of which are unique to her.
The top row of the Cemetery Trader’s screen lets yourecruit powerful Undead soldiers. These are single-purchase mercenaries; they may be tough, but once they’re gone, they’re gone. They can be good if you need extra muscle or if you have lots of buffs and healing at your disposal, but relying on them too heavily can be risky.

Graveyard Buildings
The middle row offersblueprints for buildings exclusive to the Graveyard; specifically, theAncient Pitand theCrypt.
The Cemetery Trader hasonly limited blueprints available,so multiple copies get more expensive. You can only getup to two Ancient Pitsandthree Cryptsper run.
Building Upgrades And Town Denarii
Like the Wandering Trader, the Cemetery Trader offers Building Upgrades. However, you can also use the bottom row on her screen todirectly purchase Town Denarii. This isn’t a particularly efficient use of your hard-earned Relics, but if a run is about to end (in victory or defeat) it’s a useful way to get a few extra coins for upgrades afterward.
