It’s cliche, but it’s true: there’s not enough time in the day to do everything you want to do. Alongside playing games, I also like to read, draw, and, you know… go outside sometimes. Because of that, there’s a substantial number of games Iplanto play, but have yet to get around to.
I have every intention of playing these games someday, but every day that passes where I haven’t touched them, the guilt only grows bigger and bigger. Maybe if I write about it, I’ll feel the weight taken off me a little. Maybe. Or I should just get a move on and play these damn games in my backlog already.
Okay, I lied a little in the title. This isn’t literally every game in my backlog. But who can deny a little drama and intrigue? I have a lot more on the backburner, I assure you, but no one is reading a 100-entry list.
I am a fan of Kirby by cultural osmosis. I love that little guy. Have I playedmany Kirby games? No. I’ve played some of Kirby’s Adventure and completed Kirby’s Return To Dream Land Deluxe, and that second one is only because I guided it for my job.
But I still have Kirby and the Forgotten Land in the back of my mind, on the list of games I’ll probably play some day. It just keeps getting pushed further and further back when new Switch games come out, so it doesn’t get the chance to be in the front. I’m sorry, Kirby, I’m letting you down. I know I am.

The more time passes and the longer I go without playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the more it will creep up my guilt list. However, as this is the most recent game on my backlog, I don’t feel much guilt for it just yet.
I still feel some, though, because literallyevery person on Earth is raving about how damn good this game is. And I’m not playing it! I finally caved and ordered a physical copy recently though, so hopefully it doesn’t stay on the backlog fortoolong.
Guilt Score: 3.5/10
8Disco Elysium
Similar to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, everyone and their mother is raving about how incredible Disco Elysium is. Apparently, its narrative is top-notch and has some of the best writing in video games ever. You play as a detective and can take the story in lots of different directions, depending on your actions. That all sounds right up my alley.
Have I opened the sealed wrapper of my physical copy yet? Uhhh…. No. I don’t have any excuses. I just feel bad I haven’t gotten around to it yet because IknowI’ll be super into it when I finally do.
I have never played a Persona game in my life. But I do own Persona 3 Reload and Persona 5 Royal, with all intentions of playing them someday. I’ll just have to dedicate a year of my life to playing each, no biggie.
I played Metaphor: ReFantazio last year and absolutely loved it - it was my GOTY by a mile - so I know I’ll be into Persona as well. When I finally get around to playing one of them. It’s just the commitment of playing such long games that puts me off for a while, you know?
Final Fantasy 16 lives in my house like a bad penny. I bought it at the same time as I got my PS5 - because there werehardly any other games to go with it, yada yada, you’ve heard the joke before - and I have not once thought to pick it up in the years since.
Whenever my partner and I go through our physical games to see if there are any we could sell, Final Fantasy 16 always gets brought up as a potential option for selling. But we never quite commit because maybe, maybeone day we’ll feel like playing it. At this point, I feel bad about it sitting there for so long and seeing so many other games being played instead of it. I’ve humanised a game disc. I’m so sorry, FF16, I have failed you.
My partner and I have made it a goal to play all the Ace Attorney games together. We assign ourselves characters to play and take turns reading the dialogue. It’s a lot of fun. We got through the first game, Justice for All, and Trials and Tribulations, and even the spin-off Investigations: Miles Edgeworth. For some reason, we got really stuck with Investigations 2: Prosecutor’s Gambit and haven’t got any further since.
Ilovedthe first three games, so I really want to continue, especially since I’ve heard a lot of great things about The Ace Attorney Chronicles. So, the guilt is pretty big with this one. We’ll get back to Ace Attorney eventually, but for all the time we don’t, I’ll feel like I’m letting Phoenix down.
We even named our cat Maya, so wereallyhave to see this out.
Final Fantasy 10 is easily one of my favourite JRPGs, and Yuna is one of my favorite characters ever. Because of that, I know I’ll have a good time with Final Fantasy 10-2, even though some people have their gripes with it.
It looks like a lot of fun - Yuna’s a popstar, Rikku is back, and Paine looks great. I just need an excuse to go back to the 2000s and pretend like the world isn’t on fire. I’m sure I’ll get to 10-2 eventually, just not quite yet.
The Legend of Zelda is one of my favourite game series of all time. Everyone says A Link to the Past is one of the best Zelda games of all time. Have I played it? No.
Yeah, I’m pretty ashamed to say that.
I have plenty of ways to play A Link to the Past - on my 3DS, on my original Switch, on the Switch 2. It’s also a fairly short game, all things considered. So I have literally no excuse to not have played A Link to the Past yet. The guilt is a mile high with this one.
Ah, Xenoblade Chronicles 2. A strange mistress. I love the first Xenoblade Chronicles game - it’s one of my favourites ever - but I’m very conflicted about 2. On one hand, I’ve heard it has an incredible story and great characters. I enjoyed Rex and Nia in 3, so I’m sure that’s true.
On the other hand… Well. Let’s just say, have you seen the bunny girl character? If you have, you know what I’m talking about. Lots of the female character designs in 2 are not good. And that’s putting it lightly. But, if I can get past that, I know I’ll have a great time. Plus, it just feels wrong to have played 1, 3, and X, but not 2.
This one is shameful to admit. Kingdom Hearts is my favourite game series. Full stop. But I have not yet played Re:Coded. I’ve watched the cutscene movie, sure, but I haven’t played the DS game. Lots of people say it’s not relevant or worth playing, but since this is my favourite seriesever, I need to give it a fair chance.
I own it on DS now, so Iwillplay it one day. But until that happens, I will feel the utmost guilt for not having played Re:Coded yet.
