TheSubnautica 2drama continues after theco-creators were unceremoniously let go ofearlier this month. Ted Gill, Charlie Cleveland, and Max McGuire were relieved of their roles and the game was delayed by Krafton, which, according to the three, was done so as tonot pay the $250 million bonus promised to Unknown Worlds.

It’s become a case of ‘he said-she said’, as theformer leads claimed that the game was ready, while Krafton has said that there’s a lot of work yet to be done. It seems all parties are sticking to their guns, as Krafton conveyed that the game is “not up to par” in its latest investor meeting, and that it requires more time in the oven

Krafton Says Subnautica 2 Still Requires Some Time

As spotted byPC Gamer, Krafton CFO Dongkeun Bae addressed the removal of the co-creators, saying that with all that’s been going on, it’s understandable that those on the outside may think that Krafton has mismanaged the situation. However, according to him, the fact that Krafton is willing to delay the game instead of pushing it out and hoping for the best shows that “things are effectively being managed.”

The original game’s huge follower base would ensure that Subnautica 2 would sell, regardless of the condition it was in, but Krafton wants to “satisfy the highest level of satisfaction that the gamers have, their aspirations.”

“And so, because we’ve managed the whole milestone process very rigorously within the company, we were able to make the decision that we made regarding Subnautica 2,” he added. “And because we felt that the game was not up to par, not up to the level that we had wished it to be—I think that case really goes to show that our milestone process is being rigorously managed.”

It appears that, despite what the co-creators have said, Krafton is of the opinion that the game is not ready, hence the removal of the three and the delay of the game. Reports have suggested that Krafton will still honour the $250 million bonus to the studio, but that yet remains to be seen. Of course, we still don’t know what condition the game is actually in, and if the bonus is paid, then Krafton may actually have a case, despitedrawing the ire of fans.
