They said it couldn’t be done, at least not this early, but it appears that the first-everNintendo Switch 2emulator is out, being worked on and showing progress. News of a potential emulator comes as the console hasn’t even spent two months on the market, having just released last month on June 5.
Titled the Hassaku Emulator, the developers allege that not only are they the “world’s first Switch 2 emulator,“but that their work has gotten them far enough to be able to partially boot up Switch 2 games, includingthe recently released Donkey Kong Bananza, before crashing.
It’s unclear how exactly they’re getting ROMs for Switch 2 titles, as the team states they’re using Nintendo’s CDN (Content Delivery Network) paired with original Switch credentials, which sounds about as shady and weird as it gets.
That said, while they’ve been “posting” proof of their work, some in the video game pirate community aren’t entirely convinced that this emulator is real, putting the entire operation under a microscope.
These Gamers Aren’t Convinced That There Is Even A Switch 2 Emulator Out There
To start, some have already taken issue with the team alleging that they have been able to get ROMs for the Switch 2 so soon, as that part of the equation hasn’t exactly been cracked so far.
Others believe that Hassaku is the name change for another group of alleged Switch 2 emulators that was debunked as being nothing more than video files being played and not actual emulation.
Ultimately, only time will tell if Hassaku ends up truly being the first group to emulate the Switch 2. However, given the widespread attention it has already received, plus Nintendo’s own issues with those attempting to play its games illegally, perhaps it’s best that the team doesn’t go boasting about things, otherwise legal action could come before the project even gets real.
