The Elder Scrollsloremaster, Kurt Kuhlmann, has revealed in a recent interview that he doesn’t thinkBethesdawill end up using two highly requested locations for The Elder Scrolls 7, as their populations might be too weird forXbox.
Even though it’s been nearly 14 years since the last proper Elder Scrolls game released, we do at least know that the series iseventually coming back with the long-awaited sixth game. Bethesda hasn’t revealed much about the project beyond its existence and a vague CG teaser, but it’s widely rumoured to take place in Hammerfell.
It’s going to be a while until we find out whether all of the hints towards Hammerfell were correct, but that hasn’t stoppedfans from thinking about where The Elder Scrolls could go for its eventual seventh game. That’s right, TES 6 hasn’t even got a name yet, but some are wondering where the game after it will take place. One key dev is already skeptical about two possible locations, though.
Don’t expect The Elder Scrolls 7 to take place in Elsweyr or Black Marsh
My dream of exploring a land filled with Khajiit is dead
Earlier this week,The Elder Scrolls loremaster Kurt Kuhlmann took part in an interview with Kiwi Talkz, where the two discussed the series as a whole. At one point in the video (which Kiwi Talkz highlighted on Twitter), Kuhlmann takes the chance to highlight the possibility of The Elder Scrolls 7 and where it might be set.
Unfortunately for fans, Kuhlmann doesn’t think that two of the most requested locations will be the main setting for TES 7. Kuhlmann said that he’s curious to see where it will be set but thathe’s sceptical about it taking place in Elsweyr or Black Marshbecause their populations are mostly made up of Khajits and Argonians, respectively.
I would be skeptical that they could do a game in Elsweyr or Black Marsh because those inherently… the main population are lizard people or cat people. That becomes much weirder than a place that’s a human population. - Kurt Kuhlmann
Kuhlmann says that this makes things “much weirder” than somewhere that’s focused on humans, and that it would be harder to do as a result. ConsideringKuhlmann also revealed recently that Oblivion was meant to be much weirder(with Cyrodill seeing a lot of changes that are “too numerous to mention”), it doesn’t come as too much of a surprise to hear that the areas might be too weird.
While that’s a shame, Kuhlmann doesn’t say that it’s impossible or never happening, so there’s a chance we eventually get a game focused on one of those two areas. At the very least, The Elder Scrolls Online gives players the chance to explore areas of both, so it’s not like they’re going unrepresented.
