We haven’t heard much aboutThe Elder Scrolls 6since its vague CGI trailer in 2018, but with development finally ramping up, rumours are beginning to spread.
Xbox insider Jez Corden claimed onthe XB2 podcastthat the game is “quite playable” right now, even suggesting that it’s further along in development than we expected.
“If the core of Elder Scrolls 6 is done, or approaching being done—” Corden started. “Well, I don’t think that’s true. That’s not gonna be true for a while,” Rand al Thor interjected. “I don’t know, man, I don’t know,” Corden said. “Has Elder Scrolls 6 even hit full production yet?” Rand al Thor asked. “I don’t know—I heard it’s quite playable,” Corden replied.
It’s Worth Taking This Elder Scrolls 6 Rumour With A Grain Of Salt
Granted, as Rand al Thor argued, “quite playable” could mean anything. Bethesda might have a rudimentary combat system working or certain dungeons mapped out, but with incomplete textures and placeholder voice lines. Corden seemed to hint that it was further along than Rand al Thor and many of us thought, but with ‘ifs’ and speculative language, it’s worth being wary.
Corden said his prediction that The Elder Scrolls 6 would show up at a recent showcase was an “educated guess”.
Corden also claimed in the same podcast,as we reported yesterday, that Fallout 5 had been “fully greenlit”, but that it might not involve the main Bethesda team. Todd Howard reiterated last year thatFallout 5 was still on track to launchafterThe Elder Scrolls 6, so it’d make sense for another studio to take the reins if Microsoft wants a sequel out as soon as possible to capitalise on the TV show’s success. However, Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier responded last night, pointedly explaining that “Xbox didn’t lay off thousands of people so they could move those resources to new projects”, throwing doubt on Corden’s comments.
In fairness, Corden did stress that we should take what he said with a grain of salt, as he hadn’t been given enough information from his sources for a full story. Likewise, when discussing The Elder Scrolls 6, Corden said that he has “no idea how far along” development is, and that “Bethesda sourcing is quite difficult to come by”. Regardless, it’s the most we’ve heard about TES6 in quite some time.
