Summary
Well,it looks like the rumors are indeed true.
As confirmed by Deadline, Alex Garland and A24 will be coming together to help make a live-actionElden Ringmovie. Garland will also serve as a writer on the project. Additionally, Peter Rice will serve as the movie’s producer, with help from Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich, along with Vince Gerardis and none other than George R.R. Martin.
There is no targeted release date. However, when the movie does premiere, it’ll mark the first FromSoftware title to receive the film treatment, and it will join the likes ofThe Last of Us,MinecraftandSuper Mario Bros.asvideo game franchises to transition beyond consoles.
Initially, There Were A Lot Of Doubts About Garland’s Involvement With The Movie
In early May,the website Nexus Point News reported that Garland would write and direct the movie. However, after quickly going viral, the article was pulled from the website.A new article has since been republished.
While the news was an immediate hit of excitement for fans, many cautioned to take the news with a massive grain of salt. The site that published the initial rumors didn’t have the strongest track record, and Garland seemed like the least potential candidate to be in charge of both the script and directing based off his most recent projects (Civil War and Warfare).
That said,Martin did comment back in February about the potential for an Elden Ring movie, though noted that his involvement may be limited due to ongoing work. It’s unclear what role Martin will play as producer.
In the end, Nexus Point News was right, and we can all begin fancasting for the movie. Already, fans have lined up who should play Patches, and it probably won’t be too long before the Tarnished is cast. My money is on Chris Pratt.
