How To Clean The Nintendo Switch 2

When cleaning the Nintendo Switch 2 there are three key aspects you’ll want to observe.

Nintendo’s official instructions for cleaning the original Nintendo Switch will largely still stand. Ideally, you want toavoid using harsh chemicals. Dampening a microfiber cloth with distilled water and gently wiping will be enough to keep your Switch 2 looking pristine. Make certain you wring the cloth out before you use it to wipe down the console. Itshouldnotbe wet enough that it is drippingor leaving beads of water behind.

A jug of distilled water.

You are never going to apply your cleaning liquid directly to the console itself. Always apply the fluid to a cleaning cloth.

What Cleaning Solutions To Use When Cleaning The Nintendo Switch 2

The best liquid to use for cleaning is always going to bedistilled water(applied to a cloth). For the most part, you shouldn’t need anything more than that. However, fordisinfectingthe console itself, Nintendo officially recommends that you use a “consumer-grade disinfectant containing 70 percent alcohol”.

You should be cautious before you turn to chemicals aspeople have damaged their Switch consoles in the past by using isopropyl alcohol. While isopropyl alcohol is safe for cleaning electronic components (when they are turned off), and dries very quickly, it can be corrosive to plastics.

Three microfiber cloths.

For that reason alone, avoid using pure isopropyl alcohol to clean the console. If you are absolutely driven to disinfect the console, follow Nintendo’s guidanceand look for a disinfectant that contains that 70 percent alcohol formulation.

Some Lysol disinfectants fit the bill here, and should fall within Nintendo’s specifications, but it still feels like overkill to me. Make sure if you are disinfecting your console you don’t do so on the rare occasion. You want to avoid using these harsh cleaning agents frequently.

What Type Of Cloth To Use When Cleaning The Nintendo Switch 2

We specifically recommend that you use a microfiber cloth, as the microfibers create theleastabrasive surface. However, it is important to note that they can generate more static electricity. That is why you should alwaysclean your Switch 2 while the console is turned off. We are encouraging caution here, not because we have heard accounts of the static buildup from these cloths causing damage to consoles, but because the Switch 2 is expensive, and it is better to be safe than sorry.

Don’t use paper towels in place of a cloth. They are highly abrasive and could lead to microscopic scratches.

How To Clean The Nintendo Switch 2’s Screen Without Leaving Streaks

The key to not leaving streaks is to use a microfiber cleaning cloth, apply very little pressure, and utilize a circular pattern. Screen cleaners are generally overkill. All you need is water(ideally distilled) to dampen a cloth, light pressure, and a microfiber cloth. As we’ve already stated previously, just make sure you wring out the microfiber cloth before you apply to the console itself. If the cloth is leaving water droplets behind, it is too wet!

How To Clean Around The Buttons And Sticks Of The Nintendo Switch 2

Over time, dust and debris will wedge themselves into the tiny crevices surrounding the buttons of the Switch 2. The easiest way to clean these crevices out is by using a toothbrush. I’d recommend purchasing a soft-bristle toothbrush specifically for this purpose. Don’t scrub in the crevices, instead, nestle the bristles into the crevices gently, then flick dust and debris awayfrom the console.

Don’t wet the brush. We want to avoid moisture from getting in behind the Switch 2’s components.
