Vampires have been mentioned throughout history for hundreds of years. Still, they seem to only be getting more popular as time goes on. If you are looking for a new way to get your vampire fix, try reading some manga that features these fanged beings.
In this list, we’ll take a look at some of the best manga that features vampires, either as the main character or essential to the plot. These cover a wide range of genres, ensuring that there is something for everyone. Additionally, several of these manga options have never had ananimebased on them, making them one-of-a-kind.
8Millenium Snow
First up, we have Millennium Snow, which was created by the same person behind Ouran High School Host Club. While the subject matter between the two is different, you can see similar art styles between them.
In Millennium Snow, you can find a teenage girl with a life-threatening illness and a vampire who has the power to save her. This is a classic vampiric shojo, so if you are already a fan of shojo manga, then this is the perfect read.
7Shiki
Shiki originally began as a two-part book that was published in 1998. Starting in 2007 though, a manga adaptation came out and later, in 2009, the manga received an anime. All three versions take place in a small village that is plagued by shiki, which are essentially vampires.
While we have the foresight to know that this is about vampires, the residents of Sotoba don’t initially know this. Over the course of the manga, you can watch investigations ensue, and people drop like flies.
6Hellsing
Next, we have Hellsing. The name of this manga was inspired by Abraham Van Helsing, who is a vampire slayer in the original Dracula. As such, the manga Hellsing follows Alucard, who is a vampire working for Hellsing as a vampire slayer. This may sound contradictory, but he serves the Hellsing family and, in turn, the Hellsing Organization.
Of course, throughout dozens of chapters, you’ll witness Alucard come face to face with other vampires, and even humans and other creatures that dare stand in his way. The artwork in Hellsing is also phenomenal, with wonderful use of thick lines and dark space.
5Rosario + Vampire
Rosario + Vampire is quite different than other entries on our list. Rather than being avampire horror manga, this is a vampiric comedy set in a private high school. This isn’t just any school though; it happens to be for monsters.
This manga takes us alongside Tsukune Aono, who is just a normal guy attending this school. While attending, he meets the tititular vampire named Moka, who pretty much ends up biting him immediately. If you like vampires as well as slice-of-life romantic comedies, then Rosario + Vampire is right up your alley.
4Midnight Secretary
Midnight Secretary is a romantic take on vampires, geared towards the Josei demographic. In this manga, Kaya Satozuka works as the secretary for Kyouhei Touma, who happens to be a vampire. Even with this knowledge though, Kaya remains an ideal worker.
As a romance, you can expect Kaya and Touma to grow closer as she grapples with high vampire-ness. There are some cliches involved, but Midnight Secretary isn’t too long, making for a great guilty pleasure read. It’s important to point out that this manga involves some NSFW topics.
3Seraph Of The End
Next up, we have Seraph of the End. Rather than having a vampire main character, Seraph of the End deals with vampires as the enemy. This manga follows Yuichiro, living in a world where the ‘end times’ were prophesied and vampires emerged from hiding, looking to rule the world.
Throughout the manga, Yuichiro aims to seek revenge on the vampire overlords plaguing the world. Overall, this is a great post-apocalyptic and gritty manga and at the time of this publication, there are 146 chapters. Incredibly, the manga is still going!
2The Record of a Fallen Vampire
The Record of a Fallen Vampire is a relatively old manga, first published in 2003 and eventually ending in 2007. The manga follows a vampire king named Strauss who’s on a journey to find his queen that was sealed away (the reason? she nearly destroyed the world a thousand years ago).
Strauss has a simple goal, but those around him fear that if he united with his queen, the world will fall into ruin. As such, humans and dhampirs (half vampires) alike seek him out to put an end to the reunion.
1Bloody Mary
Last but not least, we have Bloody Mary. This manga tells the tale of Bloddy, a vampire with red hair who doesn’t seem like others of his kind. He doesn’t burn in the sun and doesn’t even like drinking blood.
Bloody eventually comes to meet a priest. Rather than sparring though, Bloody wants this priest to kill him. While Bloody Mary occasionally has the shonen ai tag (boys' love), it’s quite light on the romance; many people note that it’s more of the platonic bond between the two.
