Summary

Revenge of the Savage Planetis just like its predecessor, but bigger in every way you can imagine. Bigger planets, more of them, so many outfits and tools, and oh so much to scan. But this is partially a survival game, and that means getting out there and gathering resources. This is all in service of getting some shiny new upgrades.

The game thankfully also makes each of these upgrades feels tangible, nothing that is ever just small percentage increases. You want to fire more bullets? You can get that. You want your whole body impervious to fall damage? No problem. You want to jump higher than the game really intended you to be able to? These are all options with upgrades, and these are the best one you should get.

Revenge of the savage planet upgrade landing impact nullifier.

10Landing Impact Nullifier

In a game like this, you’ll be jumping around quite a bit, but you are still (mostly) human, and that means you’re legs are rather fragile. They can bring you back as many times as they want, but it would be preferable to not have to break your legs from something as small as falling off a cliff. Which is why you should invest in the Landing Impact Nullifier.

Available as soon as you can access the 3D Printer in the Habitat, the Landing Impact Nullifier does exactly that. No longer must you fear the impact of gravity, with your oddly sturdy frame capable of handling any fall. You can hold off on it for a bit if you want the thrill of planning your descent, but it’s a great one to have available.

Revenge of the savage planet upgrade power dodge.

9Power Dodge

Enemies are fast in Revenge of the Savage Planet, and the bigger ones hit harder than you might expect. To that end, it would be great if you could actually dodge them as fast as they can charge you. Well you’re in luck, because the Power Dodge makes that dream a reality. No longer must you be gouged on an enemy horn.

Sprinting just isn’t fast enough, and jumping upwards can make it hard to center on the enemy after landing. The Power Dodge is instant, letting you move in any horizontal direction you’re holding, and can even be used in the air. The cooldown is super brief too, letting you dodge like a bolt of lightning.

Revenge of the savage planet upgrade survey range booster.

8Survey Range Booster

A pretty integral part of the game experience is surveying every few seconds. This helps youlocate the resources around you, and helps you hone in more precisely on other collectables, like Orange Goo and Printer Slurry. It is, however, limited to 100 metres around you in every direction.

The Survey Range Booster doubles this, giving you a much wider reach on where to find the items that are all around it. It’s not inherently game-changing on paper, but in practice it is amazing just how many items every so slightly fall out of that initial 100 metre range.

Revenge of the savage planet upgrade goo ingestor.

7Goo Ingestor

rEarly on in your jaunt across Stellaris Prime, you will acquire the Water Hose. This lets you fire water at anything and everything, swelling up some enemies, stunning others, and generally a great way of putting out fires. It is quite limited though. There are other, more exciting goos that you just can’t handle.

That is, of course, until you unlock the Goo Ingestor upgrade. Found by unlocking Supply Crates on planets, the Goo Ingestor lets you soak up the goo from other sources, such as Ferrous, Lava, and Green Goo. These don’t regenerate automatically, but widen your capabilities massively.

Revenge of the savage planet upgrade griff and splunker heat dumper.

By getting the later Homebrew Goo Tank upgrades, these will refill automatically just like your Water Tank.

6Griff And Splunker Heat Dumper

Seeing as your main weapon in the game fires laser, it also automatically cools itself. It is functionally unlimited, though can quite easily overheat if you’re rapid-firing. You have to be tactical with these shots to avoid being left with a gun that’s nothing more than a lump in the middle of combat. But that doesn’t have to be the case.

The Griff and Splunker Heat Dumper makes it so that even if your gun does overheat, you don’t have to wait the full cooldown period. Just press the button when it’s in the white section during cooldown to instantly cool the weapon and have you back firing in an instant. This is especially helpful when using Charge Shots, which completely overheat the gun.

5Charge And Bounce Shot

Being able to fire lasersis all well and good, but a single bullet like that isn’t always going to deal a massive amount of damage, and your weapon may end up overheated before you’ve had a chance to defeat the enemy. Which is why you should invest in the Charge Shot for some extra firepower.

When charged, the reticle turns blue, and fires off a powerful blast that deals a massive amount of damage. The later Bounce Shot can be charged even longer until the reticle turns purple. This shot not only deals more damage than a Charge Shot, but it bounces between enemies to hurt multiple at once. Just remember that these attacks fully overheat your weapon.

4Planet Scanner

Every time you use the Survey function in the game, it highlights any collectables and resources around you. However, unless you have the Survey Marker skill, these do not stay marked permanently on the map. However, there is an upgrade that supercedes all of this.

And that is the Planet Scanner. Available to create once you’ve done enough scanning, this just marks every single Supply Crate and Orange Goo on the map. You don’t even need to survey. Land on a planet for the first time and suddenly every single collectable is marked.

3Throwable Stabilisers

By default, the only throwable item you have it bait. This is great for distracting enemies, or getting them to attack one another, but it’s far from the most powerful tool in the world. you may pick up Blight Bombs, Bombegranates, and Gelatinous Blobs when you come across them, but only for a few seconds.

That’s where the various Stabiliser upgrades come in. Suddenly, all of these items you could only hold for five seconds can be stored in your inventory permanently. The search for a well-placed plant is needed no longer!

Even better, once you acquire the Stabiliser upgrades, you can stock up on these items at the vending machine in the Habitat.

2Extra Thrusters

In Revenge of the Savage Planet, you move a lot. It’s a game that actually hasquite fun movement, and even better once you start investing in more of the upgrades and learn how to navigate the world. One of the first upgrades you create are the Zoot Thrusters, letting you double jump. But what if you could triple jump?

And why stop there? Why not have a quadruple jump? Well you’re able to! Combining all of the thruster upgrades together, you can jump an unreasonable number of times, an amount that even the game admits the level design can’t quite account for.

1Proton Tether X11 Launcher

After getting the Lasso Whip, one of the first upgrades you’re able to and should get allows you to grapple onto specific grapple points, This makes lots of traversal a breeze, but the grapple point has to actually exist. Until you unlock the Proton Tether X11 Launcher, of course.

Because the game wants to remove every obstacle possible, this upgrade lets you use the grapple anywhere. It really is as free as it sounds. Using your friendly companion, Eko, as the Grapple Point, you may launch yourself wherever, whenever. You can even do it twice in a row before landing, with a potential three boost jumps on top of it. It’s as broken as it sounds.
