Broken Arrowpits the forces of America and Russia against one another in a fictional conflict, showcasing the best that each country’s military has to offer. In the case of the United States, that means state-of-the-art war machines and elite special forces.

Even a few tweaks to your Battlegroup can significantly impact a mission’s outcome in Broken Arrow, so every unit can excel in the right role. If you’re not sure what to pick, though, it’s hard to go wrong with these choices from each category in America’s lineup.

Recon

US Recon troops are capable of dealing plenty of damage, but their real benefit is inlocating and marking enemy unitsfor a laser-guided strike.

USMC Scout Snipers

Scout Snipers are afragile unit, operating in pairs, but they have thehighest Optics of any ground unit in their categoryand an impressive Stealth rating of 3; keep them in woods or a building, and they should be fairly safe.

While theirhigh-powered riflesboast an impressive Penetration and Damage that make them a threat to most infantry and some light vehicles, their unmatched ability toget in close and paint a target with their lasers, paradropping if necessary, is their real ace.

MQ-9 Reaper / MQ-1C Gray Eagle

The perfect complement to the Scout Snipers or any other laser unit, drone strikes are well worth building your entire strategy around with the USA. The Reaper and Gray Eaglehave the same base costat 110, and in most cases can fill the same role admirably.

The Reaper isconsiderably fasterand trades Penetration for raw damage. There are few vehicles that have enough Top Armor to take a hit from one of its two missiles, and even fewer with the HP to survive the impact. the Gray Eagle is slower, but with four missiles and a higher Penetration, it can be useful forcracking harder targets.

Infantry

Most American infantry units come equipped with theM4A1 rifle, favoring close- and mid-range engagements to clear the way for their heavy weapons.

Delta Force

Infantry combat in Broken Arrow centers around taking and holding buildings, and there’s no better unit for the job in the entire game than Delta Force. With flashbangs and combat shotguns, theyexcel at storming buildings occupied by the enemy, and once they’re inside their grenade launchers and light machine guns help them defend it from any incoming ground assault.

They’re also the USA’s most expensive infantry unit, with a base cost of 100, so deploy them sparingly.

Mechanized Riflemen

Mechanized Riflemen fill a similar role to a squad of Marines, but athalf the cost.Granted, their unit is also half the size, but they also have AA and MMG loadouts available, making themmore versatile.

A standard unit of Mechanized Riflemen hasfour rocket launchersavailable, so once they’re in position they can take care of armored threats with ease.Be sure to keep them well-suppliedso the rockets can continue flying.

Vehicles

American vehicles are either heavily-armored tanks, or light troop transports. Using both effectively in the right situations is key to keeping control of the fight on the ground.

M1A1 HC

There are a lot of M1A tanks available in Broken Arrow’s American roster, and the HC offers thebest balance of cost to effectiveness. At 205, it’s on the cheaper end of heavy tanks, with only a little less armor on the front to show for it. If you really need the extra Penetration on the more advanced M1A2 series, the option is always there, but it’s going to cost 35 to 75 more points to deploy.

Stryker ESV

The Stryker isgreat for early raids and securing objectivesthanks to its low cost, high speed, and carrying capacity for all but the largest squads. Deployed in squadrons, these vehicles and their M2 Browning machine guns can handlemost infantry and light vehicleswith relative ease.

Support

Artillery and anti-aircraft guns make up the USA’s support units, and the Marines have a suite of amphibious vehicles that offer some unique tactical options as well.

Patriot PAC-2

Playing as America, you won’t be starved for choices when it comes to anti-air units. The PAC-2 needs supply crates on-hand to keep it loaded, but there aren’t many aircraft that it can’t shoot down in one go. If you need to defend the skies above your position, this is the way to do it.

M109A6 Paladin

Paladin tanks are agreat artillery option overall, and even have laser-guided rounds available in limited quantities for precision strikes. When things go wrong, as they often do in Broken Arrow, they also have a Browning equipped for self-defense. The A6 isslightly cheaper than the A7, and has a greater range at the expense of ground speed.

Helicopters

Helicopters can rain havoc and destruction on just about any target, as long as they’re protected from any air defenses that could shoot them down.

AH-1W Supercobra

The Supercobra fills the same role as the much more expensive Viper and Longbow choppers, at a fraction of the cost. It’s slightly faster than the Longbow as well, which makes up for its slightly weaker machine gun.

There aren’t many threats that a Supercobra can’t handle that would merit calling in bigger guns; it’sbetter to keep the Viper and Longbow in reservefor when you need a target absolutely, unequivocably destroyed.

CH-47 Chinook

The Chinook Helicopter is the ultimate transport vehicle in the USA’s arsenal. Between itsspeed, cargo capacity, and seating,it’s a great way to deploy a large force all at once if you have the points saved up.

The risk, of course, is that it could be shot down during deployment; if you put all your eggs in one basket, make sure the basket is protected.

Aircraft

Air power is often the key to victory in Broken Arrow, and that’s especially true when playing as America, who puts on a fearsome display in the sky.

F-22 Raptor

The Raptor has alower fuel capacitythan most planes, so it can’t stay in the field for long, but while it’s there it will ruin other aircrafts' day. Its blistering speed of 900 and respectable Stealth rating for its class mean thatby the time its target knows the Raptor is there, it’s too late.It can shoot down helicopters and planes with ease, and maybe even squeeze in a strafing run on its way back to base.

A-10C Thunderbolt 2

Gunships don’t have quite the maneuverability of their helicopter variants, but their speed lets them strike faster and deeper. The Thunderbolt has machine guns and Sidewinder missiles to help it reach its objective, wherelaser-guided Maverick missileswill make short work of any vehicle unlucky enough to be targeted by this beast of a plane.

B-2 Spirit

Surely, Broken Arrow wouldn’t just give one faction access to a tactical nuke… would it? As it turns out, they did. The B-2 Spirit isslow and dreadfully expensive, costing an eye-popping 1000 points to deploy, but if it reaches its target, nothing will survive.A tactical nuke probably seems like overkill, but you can’t deny it’s a decisive way to finish a match.
