Summary
Compared to a lot of other RPGs,Clair Obscur: Expedition 33is a much shorter game than the average. There’s a good chance you’ll be shocked at how quickly you can reach credits after getting to Act 3, and the reason for that is the amount of optional content you’ll unlock in this section of the game.
Because of how levels are scaled on the standard difficulty, it’s actually a good idea to go for the final boss pretty soon after you reach Act 3, so the challenge isn’t trivialized by over-leveling. That also leaves you with plenty of content to enjoy in the post-game, so what is there to offer?
9Find Every Gestral Beach
Filler Episode
While there’s a good chance that you will run into a couple of the Gestral beaches during your journey through the main story of Expedition 33, it’s unlikely that you found all five of them without dedicating some time to tracking them down.
These locations have unique rewards that you won’t find anywhere else, and unlike the rest of the game, they provide challenges in platforming rather than combat. Because of this switch in focus, you might find them particularly frustrating and challenging, but they’re worth toughing out for the rewards after completion.
8Finish Every Relationship
Social Links
It’s pretty natural to want to progress through each of Verso’s relationshipswith the party membersas soon as you get the opportunity. However, unless you make the effort to leave the final dungeon after starting it, you won’t get the chance to complete any of the relationships before credits, leaving this as a mostly post-game activity.
On top of the obvious narrative benefits of getting to know each of the characters better, there are plenty of in-game rewards for completing each of these side quest lines. You’ll get the final Gradient Attack for each of the party members, as well as some unique miscellaneous bonuses too.
7Beat The Endless Tower
Don’t Worry, It Does In Fact Have An End
When traversing the stunning Continent throughout the first couple of acts, you might have noticed the giant forboding tower off to the West. While it might look tempting, you won’t be able to visit until Esquie can fly in Act 3, and even then, you’ll need to grind to even stand a chance.
The tower contains waves upon waves of unique challenge trials, and you’ll need to have mastery of the game’s mechanics, and the patience to complete each of these trials back-to-back. It ends with a challenging new boss, but for each trial you’ll get rewarded, so it’s worth the effort.
6Find All Cosmetics
Time For A Makeover
While it’s a feature that could easily’ve been excluded, if you like having the option for customization, you can mix and match the hairstyle and outfits of each of your party members. These cosmetics are scattered around the whole Continent, and it’ll take plenty of time to find all of them, and complete the pre-requisites to unlock them.
Even though there are plenty of cosmetics simply available for purchase from various Gestral merchants, others require much more time and effort. Some are rewards for side quests, others require beating high scores on Gestral Beaches, and then there are the tough mime mini-bosses that each hide a cosmetic too.
5Complete All Side Quests
Helping Hand Around The Continent
Unlike other RPGs, there isn’t too much focus on side quests in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. There isn’t a menu dedicated to helping you track these optional objectives, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
These missions are simply triggered by talking to different NPCs, and while they tend to be simple fetch quests, since there’s nothing to help you track them, it’s very easy to forget which ones you’ve started. The best way to complete all the side quests is to use a guide, not just for advice, but to help you track them all down, since some arevery well hidden.
4Max Out Your Party
The Strongest Expedition
By the time you finish the final boss of the main story for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, your party will likely be around level 50-60, but to complete all the much tougher secret bosses, you’ll want to do some grinding to ensure your party is up to the standard.
The max level for each party member is 99, and getting there requires a fair amount of patience. The best way to achieve this without getting burned out is to research the recommended level for each of the optional bosses. This way you may break up grinding with some more unique encounters.
3New Game Plus
All Over Again
Once you’ve reached credits, the next time you open up the game and interact with a flag, you’ll be greeted with the option to start a New Game Plus save. Make sure not to dive into this headfirst, especially if you’ve only just beaten the final boss.
While you’ll retain your experience and character inventory, pretty much everything else will be lost, and you’ll start from the beginning. Enemies are tougher, so it’s a perfect challenge if you haven’t had your fill, or missed some optional goals in your first playthrough, but make sure you’re prepared to lose your original save.
2Beat All The Secret Bosses
The Best Of The Best
Act 3 has the most new bosses available compared to any other part of the game, but you wouldn’t know that if you’re just focusing on the main story. While there are a couple ofthird-act bossesyou won’t be able to miss, the majority of them are spread out around the Continent, some of which are hidden in tough new dungeons.
The final secret boss is by far the toughest challenge in the whole game, and to beat them you’ll need to have mastered the parry mechanic, and ensure that your party are leveled up enough to be able to even scratch them.
1Achievement Hunt
The Truest Test
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has extensive trophy and achievement support across all platforms, and this is the best way to test if you’ve truly seen everything in the game. Getting every trophy requires going out of your way to achieve certain goals that don’t come naturally unless you know about them, so it’s worth using a guide for the more obscure ones.
Not only will you need to complete plenty of the other post-game challenges to get that elusive Platinum, but you’ll also be forced to use every tool the game offers you. For example, you’ll need to use certain party members you might have abandoned, and others might require starting a whole new playthrough.
