Plenty ofOne Piececharacters make a deal with the devil by giving away their ability to swim in return for powers that humans never should’ve had. However, while many are strong enough with just the portion of power their Devil Fruit gives them, others can have their ideals and goals sync with the Devil inside their fruit, harnessing their full power.

To do this, you have to strive toward the same goals as the Devil residing within the Devil Fruit with no hesitation or doubt in your mind. You don’t need a Devil Fruit awakening to be strong, since Kaido, despite all his strength, never got to bond with the Azure Dragon. Still, all of those who have awakened their true potential will surely be important in the story going forward, and here are the best Devil Fruit awakenings in One Piece, ranked!

Awakened Ability

Heightened durability, strength, and regeneration

The name Devil Fruit is often overlooked by many when it comes to just how risky they can be. This isn’t a surprise, since losing the ability to swim by itself isn’t nearly a detriment bad enough to counteract just how much power you gain. However, we see the first hint of why these Devil Fruits are so sinister with the Jailer Beasts of Impel Down.

There exists a Devil inside each Devil Fruit. This Devil, while it cannot converse directly with the outside world, has its own will, ideals, and personality. To successfully awaken your Devil Fruit, you have to make your mind one with whoever is inside, and while many characters succeed in doing so, it fails more often than not. If you do fail, you have your mind overtaken by the Devil and continue to exist as a mindless powerhouse that eats, kills, and sleeps without worry.

Increase to physical stats, and a longer neck

Devil Fruits come in all kinds of forms. Where some grant you the powers of a god, others turn you into a giraffe. The latter is what happened to CP9’s Kaku, who was quite disappointed with his powers of having a longer neck than other animals.

Ultimately, Kaku forced himself to love giraffes, essentially gaslighting himself into a Devil Fruit awakening. Like with Lucci, we don’t know the full extent of this awakening, but Kaku had a longer neck than ever and was able to briefly go toe to toe with Zoro.

Ability to polarize non-magnetic objects to turn them into magnets

Another member of the Worst Generation, Eustass Kidd, is one of the side characters who played a role in the Wano arc alongside the Straw Hat Pirates. We’ve seen him use his Devil Fruit plenty of times, using its magnetism to create various mechanical contraptions and using them in battle.

In the Wano arc, we saw how Kidd’s Devil Fruit awakening functions in his fight against Big Mom, where he could turn even non-magnetic objects (the non-magnetic object in question being Big Mom) into magnets that attract all forms of objects to be pulled to them. We haven’t seen many showings of Kidd since then due to his defeat at the hands of Shanks, but his power is certainly one to look out for.

Can turn surrounding environment into strings

Our first introduction to the concept of Devil Fruit awakenings came alongside one ofOne Piece’s best villains, Don Quixote Doflamingo. His Devil Fruit power lets him create and control strings to various effects, including creating slicing motions, using it for traversing, and even controlling people.

This was already a magnitude of power we weren’t used to, but Doflamingo was hiding his true strength. At his best, Doflamingo revealed that he can turn the environment itself into strings that he can then control, having a huge advantage in any fight taking place near his strings.

Longer range

Gil Tesoro is the main antagonist of the One Piece: Gold movie, being a character governed by his desire for all things shiny. This desire manifests in his Devil Fruit as well, letting him create and control gold to his will, making him an extremely powerful foe.

Gild Tesoro’s awakening also gave him the weird ability to send things using his gold.

We don’t get to see how he was pre-awakening, but with the full power of his Devil Fruit, Gild Tesoro gained the ability to control any gold he touches at great distances. This is a unique aspect of Devil Fruits that we often don’t see, and despite not being canon, it sets the stage for various unique Devil Fruit awakenings that come later.

Can move and reshape the Room

A fellowmember of the Supernovasthat Luffy is a part of, Trafalgar D. Law, has access to one of the most interesting Devil Fruits in One Piece. His Ope Ope no Mi, or Operation Operation Fruit, lets Law create an isolated sphere where he can do various extensions of medical techniques.

This includes splitting stuff apart, switching positions, telekinesis, and much more. The only thing stopping Law from being one of the strongest One Piece characters was the stationary nature of this sphere, but with his awakening, Law can move it and apply it to specific things, mostly doing it to his sword.

Can turn the environment into mochi

When you think of the most dangerous of Devil Fruits, plenty of the other options on this list might make sense. Leopards invoke a sense of fright, magnetism and reconstruction both have infinite potential, and the power of a literal god doesn’t need to be explained to know it’s great.

One power that may not seem too strong at first would be to create and manipulate mochi, a Japanese food. Katakuri makes great use of this, though, creating, controlling, and turning everything around him into sticky mochi. He gave Luffy quite a run for his berries, and despite his supposed loss, was one of Luffy’s greatest challenges to this day.

Can reconstruct the environment around him

Another antagonist from the One Piece movies, Douglas Bullet, comes from One Piece: Stampede. He’s another character like Gild Tesorro who had already awakened his Devil Fruit by the time we get to meet him, so we don’t see just how big of an improvement his Devil Fruit awakening was for Douglas.

What we do see is the sheer amount of power Douglas Bullet possesses with his Devil Fruit, the Gasha Gasha no Mi, letting him deconstruct and reconstruct things. By itself, the power might not have been too strong, but the awakened Gasha Gasha no Mi lets Douglas Bullet reconstruct the landscape itself to anything he wishes, making him one of the best Devil Fruit users in One Piece.

2Rob Lucci

Devil Fruit

Lucci was the main antagonist of one of One Piece’s best arcs, serving as Luffy’s rival as he pushed the Straw Hat captain to heights he’d never soared to before. While we thought he was ultimately defeated by Luffy’s Gear Two, he made an unexpected return in the Egghead Island arc.

What was even more unexpected was his Devil Fruit awakening, which meant that his personality was now fully synced with the Devil residing within the Fruit. This was a shock, since we’d never seen a carnivorous Devil Fruit awakening before, and while it posed no threat to Luffy, it still made Lucci far stronger than most other characters in the series.

Turning surroundings into rubber, reality-bending powers

The protagonist we’ve been following for well over a thousand chapters was always thought to be a man made of rubber. With his fight against Kaido in the Wano arc, we learn this isn’t true, and instead of eating the Gomu Gomu no Mi, Luffy ate the Devil Fruit belonging to the Sun God Nika.

It’s said that Zoan awakenings can often influence the mind of the user. It’s implied that Luffy’s heightened sense of humor and tendency to laugh in this form are due to the Sun God’s will.

This reveal came alongside Luffy awakening his Devil Fruit andactivating Gear Fifth, gaining the trademark spirit cloak around the user, as well as the ability to transform his surroundings. Sun God Nika Luffy is capable of turning anything he touches into rubber, letting him negate all damage, have complete control over his environment, and do pretty much anything he wants to.
